  • Aprox. 1988 Charvel, please help with DATING and MODEL!

    [email protected]

Hey, so I recently got a Charvel guitar, and I must say, I love it!
only thing is, it is older, and as you probably know, Fender does not have the serial number records of older Jackson's or Charvel's. So that's why I came here!

I am new to JCF, so I can not post immages or attach immages, so please E-Mail me to get them.

Please, E-Mail me to check out pictures and help me by telling me everything you can about this guitar, like value, year made, model, everything like that,

I am estimating it is a 1988, but there is always margin of error on things like this.

    Thanks a lot!

    Mitch

Pics are definitely helpful, if you can't get them up now (or don't know how) we at least need to know a solid description (and you might as well give us the serial # )

email sent. I'll host & post the pics as soon as you can get them to me. Otherwise, you can open a free photobucket account, upload them there and link to them. That's how we do it here.

        Here it is:

It's a 1989 275 Deluxe. It's easy to ID the exact year on these because it's the only year this model had the full size strat body & JT-6 trem. Here's the '89 catalog page with the 275:

I came to the conclusion a while back that the sole purpose of this particular model was for Jackson to use up the remaining full strat-shaped guitar bodies and JT-6 trems left over from the original Model series when transitioning to the newer ones. This was the only toothpaste Charvel model to have a full strat-shaped guitar body. I think alot of these bodies were originally destined to be Model 2's and were rerouted.

Anyway, I dig em and have at 1 and 1/2 in parts (2 bodies, 1 neck).

            Hey, thanks alot,
Just curious, what would the price evaluation on this be?

            Thanks,

I think somewhere in the $200 ballpark, maybe up to $250 in great shape with a case in the U.S. Like most of the '86 - '92 import Charvels, they're awesome bang for the buck for buyers. The flip side of that coin is that if you sell one, you're not likely to find anything that plays nearly as well with the money.

                  dg,
so the delux 275 model was manufactured for only 1 year, 1989? i though it was manufactured from 1990-91?

There was a 275 Deluxe model from '89 - '91, but in '90 they switched from a full-size strat to a Dinky body shape, went to the JT-570 single-locking trem, and changed the pickup layout to a slanted pair of stacked hums at the bridge and a straight one at the neck:

And Ron's right. I added an extra year to the glory days. There were a few cool models later on, but they got away from the original J/C shapes & vibe, and quality dropped too.
