  • New guitar: 375 deluxe with maple neck

I won a Charvel 375 with maple neck through ebay today, it ran me 287 bucks. It's a little beat up, missing the trem arm and has some stickers on it, but I'm confident that this is going to be a great playing guitar..

Is it possible to but a D-tuna on a guitar with a pull-up route for the trem?

I don't think you can put a D-Tuna on a JT-590 (aka Schaller or Floyd Rose II) trem with those short, fat string lock screws. See the 1st question in the FAQ:

In theory, you could shim the neck and raise the trem to a height that's clear of the recess, then install a blocked OFR or licensed Floyd that can take a D-tuna.

Thanks for the tip, I think shimming the neck and stuff is too much work for this project - I don't play in drop d THAT much, hehe..

I know the 375 pop up from time to time and that they aren't rare at all, but I haven't seen many with maple fretboards on Ebay - does anybody have a clue on how often these pop up for sale?

I guess not too often. Are you sure it's not a mutt with a replacemnt neck?

You just don't hear much about the 275, 375 and 475 guitars.

They made quite a few with maple boards, but not nearly as many as they did with rosewood. No idea what the percentages were. I doubt it's a mutt as long as it has a toothpaste logo, because the other toothpaste models that sometimes had maple were the Fusion (24 frets), the Spectrum, and the Legend (both reverse head).

My thought as well - toothpaste logo, black tuners and a maple board..I'd be more suspicious if it had a behind the nut lock, then it'd probably be one of the model-series necks..

Yeah, from the pics I think it looks legit as well..I had a 375 de luxe with rosewood fretboard many years ago, and has missed that guitar ever since selling it. I think it's going to be neat to test one with a maple neck..I'm planning on swapping the humbucker for something a bit hotter than the stock one, any views on what would sound good in the 375?
How would an Invader sound with a maple neck as opposed to a JB for instance?

                      Thanks!

Well, I bought a Duncan Invader for 25 bucks that I'm gonna put in the 375..The Invader is probably an old one, because it doesn't have the "Seymour duncan"-writing on the top, but it does have the logo on the baseplate..

I'm guessing this is going to sound great!

Didn't those come with the J90C?

I have no idea..I will check as soon as I get the guitar, but if I search the forums I'll probably find out a whole lot quicker

So what are your thoughts on the J90c Sunbane?

Yep, the 375s came with the J90C. Hard to tell from the photos if it was replaced by the previous owner. IMHO, they're really decent pickups. A couple of years ago, I could get them on that auction site for 15 to 20 dollars a piece so I stocked up. Now, they go for more.
