I think I've got the hang of this

With all of the thorough information this forum I believe I've narrowed down my Charvel as a 1987 Model 4. Based on the following....

Bolt-on
gasket neck plate with "TM"
"R" trademark on the headstock
Shark inlays
HSS, three knob & three switch
The Floyd Rose liscensed trem
s/n 249517

Two hours ago I didn't squat about my guitar. Amazing. Maybe now I'll start playing it again.

Can't be a 87 it would have a JT6 trem no shark inlays. It might be a Mutt?

Errr...no. He DID write that it has a licensed Floyd (= JT6), and the M4 DID have sharkies in '87.

The closest color I could identity from the stock offerings would be the Black Cherry. I always thought it was a dark purple but I feel much better now knowing it's Black Cherry

86 had a Kahler, no sharkies. 87 on had JT6 and sharkies. Neither had neck binding.

Yeah. It's called Black Cherry. I have a Model 6 in the same color.
