Model 3A ~ '87 or '88 ?

I have narrowed it down to 1987 or 1988

Can't be 1986 because it would have had a Kahler like my '86 Model 4 does and "TM" on logo instead of "R". I believe in 1989 logo went to toothpaste script.

Anyone know of differences in '87-88?

I know on the neck-thru models you can tell easily by the SN. You might be able to find out by posting the SN. Some people here have lists that might be able to narrow it down by that.

Looks early, so I'll guess '87. That will have to suffice until an Import Charvel Listkeeper shows up

Take a look at the two headstocks - one on right is my Model 2 and one on left is this red Model 3A - they both are either '87 or '88 again because of the trem and logo. One has flush locks on nut and the other raised screw heads both they both have the same trem. i wonder if the nut was changed from '87 to '88?

I don't remember where I saw it, maybe here, but IIRC the TM on neckplate and headstock logo is 86, TM on the plate and R on the logo is 87, and R on the plate and the logo both is 88. I just can't remeber where I saw this, but I want to say on this forum. Then again, I am buzzed up and prolly talking out of my ass again. Ahhhh, Saturday nights allright.........

I think you nailed it here! Of my 3 Charvels...

one has TM/TM ('86), one has TM/R ('87) and the other R/R ('88)

Sweet - now I can sleep at night!
