  • NGD Model 1C

Picked up an old Model 1C off of an auction in Japan for about $100.
At first I just wanted it for the neck for another project but now Im thinking I want to keep it as it is. It is quite fun to play.
Neck looks and feels new and has an oil finish, which I doubt came originally.
Im not really liking the pickups much so thinking of swapping em out.
    Any suggestions?

        Sweet deal and guitar.

        What's wrong with the pickups?

        Why don't you like them?

What type of tone are you after?

So far I have only been able to hear the pickups through a Boss Micro-BR and a POD XT through a combo amp. Ill give them another whirl this weekend through some real tube amps and see if I still like them.
Initial impression though is the bridge is a bit trebly and fizzy, would like to get a near a warm EVH tone out of it.
Same with the single coils, they sound lifeless. Thought about a couple of Texas specials or equivalent.

            Hey Cap'n...

I'm a little less than an hour south of you in Kanagawa.

Let's get together for a beer or chu-hai sometime

Actually I work in Tokyo and live in Yokohama off of the Toyoko Line so may be closer. A beer sounds good

Should be a J-90C and two J-100V's great pick ups IMO.
I would leave it as is.Great buy you got too.
The J-100V's are hotter than a std Fender single and sound great.Clear as a bell tone wise.
1C's are pretty hard to come by.
                Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I really like the 1C and understand they're fairly hard to come by. They also don't seem as popular with collectors though (probably the trem). I've been fortunate to grab two over the years for next to nothing.

So, is it still the case that Yahoo is the most popular online site for auctions in Japan? As opposed to Ebay which controls the rest of the world!

                    BTW, nice guitar!
