  • Finally got my Model 4 on.

My guitarist's brother has this awesome Red Model 4, which I keep bugging him to sell to me, but he never is willing to. Joke's on him, it seems, Scored this beauty for $100 off philly craigslist last night. Post went up at 12:30 on 4/12, I'd responded and confirmed buy by 1 AM

someone installed a MIDI pickup at one point, but I'll live, especially at this price. I swapped out the Kahler with one I had lying around due to the one on ther being pretty jacked-up, had to drill some new holes for the Flyer Baseplate, but them's the breaks.

Pulled the Jackson electronics and am going to install EMGs...

I want to do something crafty with the electronics. I'm thinking Volume/EMG RPC/EMG EXG, but i'm not sure. I've got a lot of real estate to work with. Might install a rotary switch for the pickups, I'm a tinkerer-and-a-half when it comes to this stuff.

90% of the time with my guitars, and 99% of the time when EMGs are involved, I don't even touch my tone control, and dime out my volume, so the other 2 holes are really just for any wacky tone-shaping controls I can come up with. Maybe a killswitch.

    Pile of 7-string guitars.
    Charvel Model 4
    Metal all the time.

If you want a bridge pickup trim ring that fits the body but doesn't have the slop around the EMG, contact Dave (budman, www.fretonthenet.com). He made me a sweet ring for a Fusion I had that needed oversized rings.

I had the same thing going on with my ESP (Emgs in an oversized ring) and I like the look of it. Dave is a stand-up guy, though, gotten tons of stuff from him before.

Those are nice...Model 4 was my first Charvel when I was a kid. I'd had this nice alpine white Gibson SG with an ebony board when I came across the Model 4...no comparison, no looking back.

            Nice score!

If you're looking to use a rotary to switch between pickups, I have the schematic for the one I did on my Model 6.

                Love that color.
What kind value do these Charvel by Jackson models have? Got one being offered for a couple hundred by a guy at work. He says its a model 4.
I haven't seen it yet, so no pics to post.

Here's the electronics job... running 3 toggles, V/T, and a battery power knob. running with 2 9v batteries for 18v, and the third pot is going to be a voltage regulator with a center detente, so i can run it in 9v, 18v, 0v technically, or anywhere in between. It's not something I'm going to use often, but I like having stupid gimmicky things on my guitars.

the model 4s, i've seen realistically between 250 and 400, (pending condition) with the rare one over 400, but I don't know if those ever sell.

That's why I jumped on this one for $100

                            Yeah, a suburb of West Philly... I don't have any nice jacksons/charvels, though. the model 4, a Rhoads EX, a RR3R, and I used to own a DX7, KE7, and RR7.

I do plan to grab one of the new SLAT-7s, though.
