  • Measurements of the Charvel import necks

Anyone ever measure the 3rd and 12th fret dimensions on the model series necks?
I love these necks and would like to know the dimensions. If no one has done so can someone with a micrometer do so?

Just a regular Model, like 1 through 4?

I measured with a vernier caliper, strings on, center of back of neck with an .024 string fretted.

          86 Model 2 & 3
          87 Model 3A
          88 Model 4, and Model 88
          89 Charvette 150 narrow dot.

All were very consistent measuring from center of back of neck.
Could be much more precise with a digital Caliper with strings off,
But this was mainly to check for general consistency.

          1st - 2.05cm
          3rd - 2.1
          5th - 2.2
          7th - 2.25
          9th - 2.3
          12th - 2.4
          13th - 2.45
          14th - 2.6
          15th - 2.65

The most noticeable difference I find is the profile from the center
of the back of the neck, to the edge of the neck.

1986 & 87 models were flat in the center with a curve to the edge.

1988 Models & Charvette were flat in the center
with a very soft angled, flattened, curve to the edge.

The 1988 type profile is more comfortable to me. IMO.

The prudes may snub them, but I don't care.
          I dont need furniture.
If its tough, shreds, and screams, Its all good.
If it gets jacked, I'll get another one.
          And rock that sucker.

Tricky is this measurement fretboard wood to back wood or with the string and fret included(seems rather thick measurements)?

From the center of the back of he neck to the top of an .024 string fretted.

I'll measure with the strings off when they need a string change, but I think this more of a real world measurement because we play them with strings on.
All of the necks measured, were so close to the same, that its not worth making separate lists.

Have someone hold the bar down so strings are skackened and measure to the fingerboard. The .024 is a given but the frets may be taller/shorter so it's not a comparable measurement for us. And I want to know too damn it!!! lol

I'm trying to match them up to the current neck profiles that are done with out strings.

                      Ok.
I measured the 88 Model 4 neck center of back of neck to center of top of fretboard just behind the listed fret.
No strings or frets figure into these measurements.

                      Fret Inches
                      1st - .75
                      3rd - .75
                      5th - .7812
                      7th - .7968
                      9th - .8125
                      12th - .8437
                      13th - .8593
                      14th - .8906
                      15th - .9531
                      16th - .9687

                        Good for you!

The neck-thru models had two different profiles. I believe the ones with Kahlers may have been a little thinner than the ones with the JT-6.

                          LOL Toejam.

What I was trying to say is assuming the Model 6 is the same as the Model 4, I could do measurements if you wanted.

                          Seems you've found out anyway.

I don't actually know if the bolt-on profiles are the same as the neck-thru.
I remember my old Model 6 and Model 5A (both with JT-6) had D-shape necks (very similar to that of the Jackson "speed neck" and also my '02 Carvin SC90).

Does anyone know how the current Jackson import necks (DK2 in particular) compare to the old Model series, bolt-0n, necks?

From what little time I got to play with one, it felt like an old comfortable pair of shoes. Looking for something affordable to replace my old player.
