  • Charvel 475 Dlx vs. Model 3.

    Hello,

Is there a massive difference in quality between the Charvel 475 Deluxe and the Model 3?

    Thanks very much.

No big difference in overall quality, but there are some big differences in the guitars themselves: 475 has a dinky body, Model 3 is full-size strat. 475 has the better trem (Schaller JT-590 vs. JT-6 or Kahler Fulcrum trem on the Model 3), and the trem is recessed vs. non-recessed on the Model 3. 475 has the sharkfin inlays & active electronics. The 475 has more in common with a Jackson Dinky, and the Model 3 has more of a classic Charvel vibe to it.

I wouldn't touch the '86 Model 6 and I wouldn't touch any 475 (because of the dinky, recessed trem, sharkies, etc).

How so? What's wrong with Dinky shape?

            What's your thoughts on this:

It needs fret work and it looks as though the trem might need replacing. How much would you value it?

                    Quality difference, not really.

I own a Model 4 and a 475... I play the 475 daily and it's my main guitar, and that is over a USA Fusion, 72 Gibson SG, and a USA BC Rich DD3(?)...

I never ever play the Model 4.

I'm partial to the model series full size Strat bodies. I also like the Model necks better.

The trem isn't that big a deal to me. I end up changing from JT6 or Schaller to an OFR anyway. The only one that I still have the original trem on is my Model 88.

I really like the 86 with pickguard and Khaler 2500.
They usually sell for less, Resembles a Strat which fits in any setting, and a Kahler 2710 and original Kahler string lock can be had for less than an OFR.

The prudes may snub them, but I don't care.
                      I dont need furniture.
If its tough, shreds, and screams, Its all good.
If it gets jacked, I'll get another one.
                      And rock that sucker.

Yeah, there might be things you like or dislike about them feature-wise but I don't think there's much difference in quality at all.

I owned a red Model 4 (Kahler) and it was a great guitar but I hated the Kahler. At some point, '90 or so, I got a 475 and it was also a great guitar. I know a lot of guys don't like the "toothpaste logo" era Charvels but at the time I definitely did not see it as a step down from the Model 4.

Yeah, I don't think there is a big quality difference in the necks. Mostly just design changes.

On the other hand, Dinky Toothpaste bodies are more prone to cracking around the neck pocket, and between the Floyd studs and the pup cav. Less wood.

But another plus with the toothpaste models are the great hardware. JT590s...

I'd say the Toothpaste ones are more similar to USA jackson neck. I tried to play my model 4 for a long time and just don't enjoy it. It's there if I need a backup.
