Very nice theory, Rich. I find it the most plausible. If it's true, perhaps the model was actually in production from late 1988 -> early 1990. I have only two reported 750XL's in that serial range.

I own a Archtop Pro with a Charvel serial C000007 . It also has just the Jackson logo , no "professional" script .

My first thought was error, and Model 88's post reinforces that for me.
