I won't buy a pointy no matter where it is made. Too dated looking and metal for me.

dated?! the strat head is WAY older than the pointy :'D i guess it does look a little more metal though
i do like strat heads dont get me wrong, just on the import charvels for some reason it just seems right to me for them to be pointys
also maybe with the pointy logo too
i just find it hard getting my head around an import having a strat head

Plenty of Fender strats that aren't made in the U.S.A. that have strat heads, but I know we're talking about Charvels here.

for me personally though the 80s look is everything i love in a guitar, big loud and in your face!
saying that my latest purchace is very timeless looking
warmoth made 1-piece wild maple body! even that aint without that cool 80s vibe though
single humbucker, schaller floyd, and reverse strat neck, LOVE it!

So... hard finish on the neck? Not oiled? Spec sheet doesn't specify neck finish, so I'm assuming its not oiled.

pretty sure it's been said that it's oiled.

Chubtone mentioned that as well ... that the necks would look a little more seasoned than the new white-ish necks on the USA production models.

I didn't just hear this either. When Mike brought the new MIJ guitar in to me, that's the first thing I noticed was that the neck was tinted.

I don't get all the rage these days about vintage, rusty, worn-in, etc etc. One of the things that really attracted me to the USA pro-mods, when I first saw them, was the really 'whiteish' neck and black hardware. I just thought it looked so cool...really rock-n-roll...but with some class.

I just will never understand paying thousands for a guitar that's purposely had it's paint worn off, chipped off...or even if they use some kind of process to artificially wear them in. Tone freaks swear by this...I guess I'm not that picky about my tone. If I'm paying a couple grand for a guitar, I want it shiny like a baby's ass. The only time I could see spending big bucks on a guitar is if it truly is vintage...or even more so, if it's got a history.
Other than that, I'll take my nice white Made in the USA Charvel necks.

The deal here is the necks on the USA Pro Mods when they were new were almost white in color. I don't think any of us ever saw a maple neck so white in our lives on any guitar ever. A friend of mine kept calling them formica necks. He bought three of them but alweays complained that the necks didn't even look like maple necks.

The tinted oil finish isn't to relic them, but make them look more like the original Charvel necks looked when they were brand new. Those necks weren't white, just a nice, new, slightly yellowed maple color like these are.

Oil finish just like the USA ones, but it's a slightly tinted oil to make the necks look "right".

Unless it's my imagination, the neck on my USA So Cal from 2008 has started to yellow just slightly. I can see the difference when I compare to another one I bought recently. So probably the necks will yellow a little over time.

I get that man..I probably should've specified..I was just commenting on relics as a result of someone's comments on the really white charvel necks. And just to reiterate...that was the thing that really caught my eye. I really dug it. I might be in the minority here, but the especially white necks of the USA pro-mods combined with the black hardware just really took me in. I never saw anything like it...and the pictures actually made them look even whiter...and even cooler in my eyes. When I got both of my Pro-mods, the necks weren't quite as white as the pics depicted...still, they did have a much lighter 'glow' than your standard maple neck. And the newer 7th batch strat was definitely (and still is) whiter than the older Telly (4th batch - I think). Either way, I think it stinks if the change the necks with these new imports...of course..if they do, it's just one more thing that makes my USA made guitar special

Tomorrow is NGD...have another 7th batch on it's way to my house as we speak (trans red ale). Can't wait. I have a feeling this one will be more like the HSS strat that I already have. Perhaps age does affect the color slightly. The older Telly definitely looks more worn in, and not as white.

Age, play, smoke, dust, grime, sweat. It all builds up and affects the color of the wood. I didn't think mine were abnormally colored when they were new - they just looked "new" to me. I thought the color was comparable to the satin finish on American Standard Strats.

I have a toothpaste Charvel and a Model Charvel. They've both seen some playing time (worn frets).

The toothpaste neck looks like new, the Model neck looks like butterscotch. :dunno:

I hope my Pro Mod neck gets darker. My Custom Shop necks are definitely darker, the red one (gets played a lot) is getting darker on the back but the white one is still pretty light.
