New Charvel Pro-Mod Series

Not worried bro just keeping the thread going. I got my 2 USA socals so Im done. No interest in these imports but its interesting to read this thread.

Same here man...have a San Dimas HSS and SD Telly...I'm happy. Although, I'm probably gonna pickup a USA So Cal as well...just so I can say I have them all. Not interested in the imports at all...although, I am curious how they will compare to the USA models in terms of quality, feel, playability, etc. My guess is that they will probably be pretty high quality...most stuff coming out of Japan is. Regardless...if I have a choice...USA or Japanese...it's not even a question.

Does anyone know if the Floyd is the same quality as the USA ProMods?

It's the same trem, except they're using the chrome version on the San Dimas models, black on the SoCals. They've posted the spec sheets for the new models on the Charvel site. Everything appears to be the same spec-wise except for the chrome hardware & direct-mount pickups on the SD models. I also just noticed that they call the Japan-made ones Pro-mods and the USA ones Production Models on the site.

A Fender rep in the Atlanta area told me they were going to tint the necks as well, any mention of that any where?

Chubtone mentioned that as well ... that the necks would look a little more seasoned than the new white-ish necks on the USA production models.

just an idea im throwing out there, please dont give me hell over it but...
would anybody else feel MUCH better about these being made in japan if they had a pointy?
to me the strat head is a usa thing for charvels, it kinda seems wrong to me to have a charvel strat head made in japan
i say bring back the model series pointy heads.. maybe even with the pointy logo not the 3-a-side
for that matter, have charvel ever even made a 3-a-side guitar?

I see what you're saying...there used to be MIJ strat head Charvels, but only for the Japanese market, so we'd miss out on that. I think it's cool that we have that choice now.

As for your desire for pointy headstock Charvels, here's an idea: Get a MIJ Promod, install a pointy neck, sell the strathead neck on eBay! Win win!

Hmm. I wonder if the Charvel ProMod move to Japan had anything to do with the introduction of the EVH Wolfgang Special. Also made in Japan, just introduced recently, same parent company. Not likely to be just a coincidence.

I had speculated earlier in the thread that the two guitars were being made in the same factory in Japan. I will probably buy the Wolfgang Special too.

I don't get all the rage these days about vintage, rusty, worn-in, etc etc. One of the things that really attracted me to the USA pro-mods, when I first saw them, was the really 'whiteish' neck and black hardware. I just thought it looked so cool...really rock-n-roll...but with some class.

I just will never understand paying thousands for a guitar that's purposely had it's paint worn off, chipped off...or even if they use some kind of process to artificially wear them in. Tone freaks swear by this...I guess I'm not that picky about my tone. If I'm paying a couple grand for a guitar, I want it shiny like a baby's ass. The only time I could see spending big bucks on a guitar is if it truly is vintage...or even more so, if it's got a history.
Other than that, I'll take my nice white Made in the USA Charvel necks.
