  • I had a toothpaste Charvel as well...and mine, too, was maple. I saw very few of them (and kinda regret selling that guitar). But it's neck was much more similar to a standard Strat's neck...all lacquered up. My American Std Deluxe Strat has a V-neck and is completely different from the Charvel Pro-mods. I certainly don't dislike the Strat...but I prefer the Charvel wood...with it's lightly oiled finish. My PC1 is like a higher quality Charvel neck as opposed to the Strat.

    Before this new collection started a few years ago, (after I sold most of my old stuff off), I've mainly had Ebony and Rosewood necks. Yeah...I had the Charvel Fusion...as mentioned above...but it's actually hard for me to remember any other guitars that I've owned over the years that were maple. Since buying my Strat last year, and then the Charvels/PC1 this year, I've actually come to prefer maple...even over ebony. The differences are certainly subtle...and I still LOVE my PRS above all my other guitars (which is rosewood, ironically)...but the maple is just the tits these days..at least for me. My only real problem with the Charvel necks, in particular, is the fret work. I think Charvel could've done a little better job filing down those frets. They certainly are the most...um...obtrusive...(is that the right word?)...they stick out a bit above and below the neck...just slightly..but enough to be noticeable. I will most likely have them worked on as time goes on. Some folks mentioned that changes in the weather may affect this...but mine have stayed the same all along. It's not bad....it's just not as nice as some of my other guitars. But the neck shape, in general, more than makes up for this small flaw. I just can rip on my Pro-Mods the minute I pick them up. Some of my other guitars take a little bit of playing/warming up. Of course, this is just me...I'm sure everyone has their own opinion.

      I think everyone is so used to the artificially aged/tinted stuff they've forgotten what Maple is supposed to look like. The funny part is, since most of the newer finishes have stuff in them to retard the yellowing, the ambering they have when they're brand new is about as "old" as they're ever going to look.

      If you think a Tru-oiled neck looks too white keep playing it.

            • A whole 300 euros cheaper than the US models! I can't wait. I have absolutely NO NEED for a DiMarzioed Floyded super strat (in fact I would normally strongly dislike these :s ) but I do want this one;

                              Cool, so it says Made In Japan right on the plate, that's good.

                              Since I'm a serial expert this ser# series is interesting:

                              JC10000375 = Japan Charvel year 2010, 375th built.

                              • If you look quick the made in Japan is small and cleverly placed under the logo. The type is smaller then the USA address and people will be confused. They shouldnt have put USA on the plate.
