  • Floyd Nut Conversion on a Model 4?

Yeah, I know it's been asked before, but the search engine is giving me a hard time for some reason.

Anyway, I've decked out my Model 4 with an OFR and new electronics and love it. Part of me was wondering just how much bullshit would be involved in retrofitting it for a Floyd Rose nut though. I've got a new Kahler string lock on there so it's nothing more than me having the itch to keep playing with my guitar.

Here's some pics of a Jackson Strat of mine that was modded. This was a JT6 stringlock instead of a Kahler, but it is the same principle. The platform is ebony and custom made, and glued down. An arch is carved into the base of it to provide clearance for a crack pipe truss rod wrench. The nut has to be screwed down, but with the screws angled outwards to clear the truss cavity (this is probably the trickiest part). This is a medium difficulty project, and mine was done by a luthier.

Can you snap a few pics for me? I'd love to see the finished product.

Just have a quality job done. The is a 1988 USA Jackson at my local GC that had this done, and it still hasn't sold for $499 (or less if you haggle). The guitar has other issues as well, like stress cracks by the head/neck area.

No, the nut on mine has front mounting screws.

I can do it either way, depends on how much wood falls under where the screws go. Most of the time you can mount from the top.

I've had it done on a Model 1 I had floyded. The luthier added a shelf just like in the pics; mine had the screws through the neck.
