  • What the heck is this! Charvel?

I bought this Charvel in Japan in 2000 used. I have never seen one like it before, maybe it is a Fake, but I don't know why someone would fake this type of Charvel. The Headstock looks like an Ibanez but inverted. (the pointy part is on the tuning peg side) It says Charvel on the headstock with the (R) logo, so I guess that means after 1989 or so. The serial plate also does not look right and the number seems odd. If anyone has a clue about this model or type of guitar it would be great to hear about it.

    Here are some photos.

Your guitar model was designed by Itaru Kanno when he was working at the Chushin Gakki factory. He is now working with Caparison guitars. I haven't heard of many of these models outside Japan. Pretty rare in your area, I would say.

Yep, Japan only model. How does it play? Do you own any other Charvels or Jacksons that have a similar feel? Just curious because I've never had the opportunity to play one.

I had ended up working in Japan for nearly 2 years, so I picked this up from the equivalent of a garage sale. It looked cool (not a scratch on it) and played great. Still does!

Wow, never seen one of these. The headstock looks very non-J/C, and very Ibanez-like. The catalog's use of FULL STRETCH CAVITY sounds um...painful!

Yep Japan only but they do pop up here in the states from time to time.

I got one of these. I am considering having the frets filed to bring the action down.
