  • What case will work for a Model Series guitar?

I recently acquired a Model 2, but it doesn't have a case. I know I could buy a generic new case for it, but what "vintage" Charvel case will it fit? Those tweed cases don't seem to show up very often on Ebay, and the chainsaw cases always seem to be beat up and missing latches. Will the black ones from the early 90's with the circular Charvel/Jackson logo fit a model 2 ? Thanks in advance.

There are at least two versions of that black case, one that will fit a model series (or a Jackson strat), and one that fits a soloist or dinky. I can identify them with decent pics of the interior. I gave up this search a while back, and found that there is a Gator case which fits the full size strat body, and supports an angled pointy headstock beautifully with proper clearance. I don't see a model number on mine, or I'd post it for you. Those old J/C cases, man there is too much drama there. Rust, busted latches, feet missing or pushed in, cracked vinyl, straps coming unglued, cigarette odors, all unrepairable...it just goes on and on. Ditch that bullshit.

Thanks man! That info is just what I was looking for. I'll look into a Gator case.

Here's the one I'm talking about at Sam Ash:

That online price is pretty good, too.

I threw my Model 4 in there just to be absolutely sure. Fits like a glove! The guitar doesn't shift around at all, and the headstock does not bottom out on the back of the case.

Axe - does that M4 with a Kahler have the tilted back neck that the non-recessed JT6 ones have?

Ah yes good question. I don't have a jt6 model series to compare to, but compared to my jackson strats with jt6's, it looks to be the same. Neck angle is not a concern here.

the vintage case for model 2 is the gray charvel "chain saw" case. they show up on evilbay once in a while. this one ended recently: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

Good to know, thanks Axe. That's the reason my Model 6 is in a generic Freedom case and not the nice new Jackson ATA case I have. The neck angle keeps the whole neck from sitting flat and the body off the bottom of the case. One good drop and SNAP!!

Another case to look into is an SKB 66...fits the Model Charvels great, I have a Model 3 (with JT6) in one. They show up pretty reasonable on eBay from time to time.

My other Model 3 came with a super mint grey chainsaw, so I lucked out, but as you mentioned, those are almost impossible to find in good shape.
