Dumb Model 6 question (also applies to model 4s)

Do you guys who have Model 6s (or 4s) find that the more pickups you toggle ON, the weaker the output signal is?

I.e. with bridge alone the sound is nice, bold and loud. Add the middle and the boldness and loudness goes down a bit. Add the neck too and it's just much weaker than bridge alone.

I am guessing this is normal? Maybe I wired mine wrong! (was a project model 6 rescue...:think

If this is normal, is there a way round it?


PS: this is on model 6 with the preamp removed.

The pickups are wired in parallel so that would be the expected effect.

If they were wired in series, first, you could only ruun all three at once, and second, it would be very muddy, but loud mud.

I had thought that was the case as I sued Seymour Duncan + Charvels wiring diagrams. Guess it means a lot of toggle switching to be done to avoid lower output combos! One more reason to secretly lust after a 650XL.....

I have both a Model 4 and 6 but both are restoration projects and aren't in action yet.

I do have a USA BC Rich ST-III with the mini switches. I guess there is a reason these didn't last past the 80's

The 650XL is nice, but you give up the non-recessed Floyd. Not that I hate recessed Floyd's (love my SL2H), but the non-recessed Floyd makes the Model 6 sort of "special". The 650XL is too similar to a Soloist Pro or an SL1, that it's like "why not" spring for the ebony fretboard.
