  • my modded model 1

been a member on here for a while yet ive never posted a pic of any of the charvels ive owned(only model series anyway)
this is the first charvel i bought, and i was instantly converted!
mods are: JT-6 bridge fitted to replace the v-trem, pickup swapped out for a Duncan alnico II, and i painted the tuners red to match the body : )
oh and i swapped the original JT-6 bar & socket for a gold schaller arm (cause the original bars suck imo)

incase html's dont work here are links:

you lost me on painting the tuners, but everything else about that guitar is awesome!

I would ike to have one just like it. What all is involved in changing from vtrem to JT6? Is it simple as drilling the post holes and enlarging the route to accomodate the block or was there alot more to do with it?

    Cheers,
    Chris

yeah i can see how some might think painting the tuners is a bit tacky!
yeah the conversion really is as simple as that, no need for even making the route bigger!
installing a behind the nut string lock is obviously needed to, or if you want to do the extra work fitting a floyd nut shelf would be better
the only other thing is that, because the jt-6 sits alot higher than the v-trem, a pretty beefy shim is needed in the neck pocket to raise the whole neck up a bit to get the action right, or i guess you could recess the trem but thats of course alot more work, and im not a fan of recessed tremolos anyway!

Ok I have to ask & really I'm not trying to be an asshole but If you're going to mod your guitar why would you install a shity bridge and an inferior locking mechanism rather than just installing a real floyd?? No offense to all of the JT6 lovers here, but come on there's no comparison to a real Floyd Rose.

Ultramagnus, i hear you man! the jt-6 was a compramise!
i dont have a job so i dont have the money for real floyds!
the jt-6 was from a 3-dr that bought with a broken headstock, so i parted it out and kept the jt-6 & locking nut, make sense now?
but i know that the a floyd is a direct replacement for the jt-6, and i definitely do intend on putting a floyd in when i can get the cash together, except i'll be opting for a schaller floyd cause i prefer them over the OFR

It would be so much easier to just find a Model 2 body. Then find the JT-6/Kahler style locking nut to apply after the phenolic nut. (that is if you can't find a spare Model 4M neck lying around)
