it always costs more to restore or build a guitar than to pay for one that's descent/working.
    1. your fret board is lifting
    2. you need recrowning
    3. fix the headstock crack before it gets worse
    4. probably needs to be repainted if you plan to fix the headstock. also you can fix the chips before the repaint.
    5. buy a je-1200 midi boost unit. one just sold on ebay for around $110 i think.
dood, if you're not handy with these yourself and plan to ask a luthier (and a painter) to do it you're looking at $500-600.

if i was you, i'd get the full refund and safe yourself the trouble. if you're patient, you could score a model 6 just a bit more around the price you paid for this disaster. i wouldn't even bother to take the $200 and parting it out. why give yourself the trouble?

now, if you're handy with restoring guitar and enjoy building stuff (like me), then take the $200, but only do it if you love doing it. otherwise you'll regret it.

    good luck man.

Like moku said, it'll probably cost you plenty more to restore/rebuild it than if you bought one 'new', but that's only if you didn't do everything yourself. Personally speaking, i would take the $200, strip this sucker down and get to work! I think this has potential to be a pretty cool project.

Even though the seller's description lacked details as to the extent of the damage, at least he offered to give you back a sizeable chunk of what you paid. I guess he was pretty desperate to get rid of it.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

Yea what I am going to do is strip it down this morning I am going to sell the body and just keep the pickups and Floyd. I would love to take the time and rebuild the whole guitar. I've never messed with fretboards (which is what will keep ne from doing the rebuild.) The crack at the top of the headstock is so small that I don't think it is affecting anything but it's still there. If any of you would like this body let me know I will try to make you a good deal

That SL1 you went through the trouble of refinishing (and now are selling WTF?) turned out really nice. I think you could glue it up, strip it and paint it and have a descent guitar in the end. You are doing a lot of the elbow grease, you just need your buddy to paint it for you.

Dude strip it...fill in the Floyd route...saw off the wings...replace with RR style wings...fix the board..you got yerself a one of a kind Neckthru 24 fret Charvel RR!! (this is a project I wanted to do YEARS ago...some older folks might remember...but I never got to do it cuz there were no super cheap ($50-150) Model 6 guitars to be had). If you ot the woodworking skills to do it that;s what I'd do!!

The paint should come to the very edge of the binding, but when the clear coat is applied it should be taped slightly back a bit so the clear coat covers the very edge of the binding.

GOOD wood glue. take off the frets. put glue on both fretboard and the neck. spread it even then clamp together. there're probably some youtube videos you can find. if you do plan on doing this, yo ushould do some research online. plenty of info, but do your research and make sure you have all the clamps, boards, right tools, etc.

once you have the fretboard off, you can also steam out any warps if the neck is not straight. if it is, then don't mess with it, just glue the board back.
