If you're selling it, I'd leave any gluing to the new owner. It's most likely going to somebody who is either really handy or plans on taking it to a pro. Same with stripping paint, imo. (Not sure if you plan on it, but the question about the clear over the binding sounds like you might be.) Different people handle refins differently as far as how they strip, or whether they even strip it all the way down in the first place, so again, I'd leave that to the new owner if you're gonna sell.

Know what? For that kind of money and including the money you already have int it, that is NOT a bad idea to go through with it at all (if you have the money). I've seen them sell for up to $800 and OVER when they're in decent shape.
If I had the $, and wanted to keep it, I would go that route.

interesting option. so $150 + $550 = 700 for a model 6 but with a custom paint job. sounds tempting... tough choice. :dunno: you'll have to make that choice yourself.

That's a pretty sick deal, i say go for it.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

I use to work at a custom paint shop. We did everything you can think of. From Race Cars to Motorcycles. We also did many guitars. One time even a prosthetic leg. THAT is a very good deal. Go for it!

Dude, don't touch it. I've been willing to help you with this, especially since you're local. The fretboard isn't "delaminating", it took a head shot and the fretboard separation is part of it. This isn't too difficult of a fix. Bring it by and I'll get it squared away for you. It just needs a good gluing, clamping, and a refret and then you can get it repainted if you like.

I would still call that delaminating (the glued pieces/layers are separating due to trauma/stress that occurred during the blow to the HS) but in any case it is mighty swell of you to help him out with that!

eh, tomayyyto, tomahhhto, I guess. I've always viewed a delamination as something that kinda happens on it's own; kinda like clear coat that doesn't bond, etc.

No worries; I'm certainly not trying to force anyone to come on over to the garage. I'm sure there are repairmen closer to you that can handle it as well. The binding will look better once everything is glued and clamped, but I'd most recommend a repair, then a refin. Once that's done, it'll look new. If you were able to get a partial refund and will only have $150 into it, that's not all that bad.
