  • Charvel EM Series. Japan only? Year?

Do you know the EM Series? What year is this series from? Was it sold in Japan only?
    I am guessing 1992.

    When were the JJ's introduced?
That should get you a ballpark date since the EM-RW is clearly a rebranded JJ.
But I would suspect these were Japan only given the url listed in the catalog.

I'm going to guess a bit later, like '97 or so, mainly based on the 2 Gibson-ish shaped guitars. The smaller script logo at the end of the headstock reminds me of the "Refinement" LP shaped guitars, and I think those came out around '97. I also think the solid-body Jackson Surfcaster variants came out closer to that timeframe, too.

edit- I also agree about them being Japan-only because of the url, the fact that it mentions GJ and Jackson Stars but not Jackson, and the fact that we never see these things.

Good hint on the JJ. And yes, I guess it's later. I was thinking 1992 mainly because of the headstock on the EM-RU. Almost-Gonzo like but a bit nicer and straightened out compared to the 1991/1992 Gonzo's.

I am thinking Japan only too, but why the English text then? Maybe it's actually Asia only?

Isn't it appalling that we don't get to see everything that comes out of Jackson Charvel as a whole? I have to dig really hard just to get a glimpse

I think you're probably right about it being Asia-only as opposed to just Japan. I was just googling for info on the Refinement series, and it looks like they are all over Asia. Sometimes I wonder if some of these were sold new in Australia too, because so many of the cool oddball guitars turn up there. Couldn't get a date on the Refinements, but one of the threads here mentioned something about them probably coinciding with the release of the JJP, like Rick mentioned above.

Man, it'd be awesome if we had a contact at the Chushin factory!

I'd rather have a hot line to Tim Wilson and ask him how it all went down in 1984-86. Or Grover.

Rick mentioned the JJ, which was what Scott Ian played, not the JJP which was the Jackson Junior Paul from '97 that was originally made for Joey Z. from Life of Agony.

                  That's correct Joe.
I don't recall what year the import version of the JJ was introduced, but that would be a starting point for this catalog scan.

Edit: Did some digging and the JJ-4 was introduced in 2000.

I wouldn't be too concerned with these, Henrik. The EM stands for "Entry Model", and as such, they were low end models. You can pick them up on Yahoo! Auction in the $100-$200 range all day long.

As for Japan (Asia?) only models, here are a couple of quirky little electric/acoustic Charvels that I found too

EM = Entry Model, good info, that's cool. Atsushi, I am not concerned about these in a buying-sense. But I have this disorder - I want to know about all Jackson Charvel production models. So this is very disturbing. I thought we had it covered
