  • model6 firecrackle....textured?

I was offered a charvel firecrackle but i noticed its textured and is only on the face of the guitar, not the back of the body. The ones ive seen on here look like a smooth paintjob and goes to the back and up the neck and back of the headstock. Is someone tryin to take me for a ride? Its an 87 i believe, c702472. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Its got the guitar logo and jt6. Serial num is a sticker/decal on the back of the headstock.

That looks like a homemade crackle on a black mod6. The serial number on the back of the headstock is legit up to early 87, so whatever paint is next to the serial number is the stock paint....guess that there is an advantage of having the serial number back there vs on the fretboard...plus no chance of it getting sanded away with a fret planing/refret.

Of course, this might be something legit that many haven't seen before, like that reverse oreo cookie Mod 6-looking thing that was a sig guitar for a Japanese player. Could this be one of the early prototypes of the firecrackle finish? Who's to say.

What do u think is a fair price for it. Theres some damage to the tip but he says hes gonna repair it. Its a bit of binding busted off whoch i would think is a hard repair to do cleanly

+1 to all of that ^^.. Are those lights in the tips of the switches? Or just red paint dots. They look round so not original that I've ever seen. Honestly, I don't know what I think of that crackle. It actually looks like heat or fire crackled paint. Like if a torch was taken to it. Definitely unique looking..

Solid Model 6's are going for top dollar these days. Your does not have the Kahler so that is a bonus. It would make a great refin project in the hands of say a master (.....Sully)

I figure between 300-400 max in that shape no? If the mid boost is still in there and working that might make it worth a few bucks more.

That's a little low.. Model 6's are pulling all the money right now.. I'd say $450 and up in that shape.. And NO, that is NOT a factory finish..

We had a "Grover" Gibson US-1 that was painted like that at the local Sam Ass. It sat and sat and sat forever. Then when it was sold and I thought "good riddence", it started showing up on craigslist

Just the one I modified with the maple top. But they are great guitars. You're not trading the Soloist Pro, are you? To compare (as we both have Soloist Pro's) my '87 M6 neck is slightly thicker (barely noticeable) than my Pro. And I don't know what it is, but the Pro feels slightly more solid feeling. Maybe a hair heavier?? If you can, bring your Pro to compare with. That one looks like it's in pretty good shape. The crackle is up to you on the + or -, if it looks good in person, I think it's pretty cool. There's 2 listings sold on ebay for $585 and $650 shipped in decent shape. I don't know if I'd go that high, maybe $450-500 IMO. Let us know what happens..

He wanted my soloist (it was on craigslist) but i got it on the bay and im sure its gonna sell. Id rather offer the guy cash. Ill probably see it next week as hes doin the binding on the tip repair along with repairing the paint chip near the first fret as we speak. I dont wanna cut him short but i dont wanna overpay either. I try to be fair. Funny you should mention the weight difference. He said he wanted my soloist cause his M6 was too heavy for him.

It looks like the only thing I'd be curious about is how the edges of the paint on the top look. Because of the texture it's impossible to tell from the photos but the edge in a few spots looks chippy (how's that for a great word.. lol). But probably just the texture meeting with the smooth sides. It does look like pretty nice shape, original parts, and unique. If there's basically nothing to fix on it (frets, electronics, and paint looks good) maybe a bit more on price, but sounds like you're probably looking at an OFR still too so keep that in mind when you break out the wallet. And don't forget there, Devil Doll... You never keep anything!!! (I need to find a Radiskull avatar!!)
