Ok so some of u know i got a model 6 which had this wierd textured firecrackle job done to it.

And tho it looks kinda cool, it looks like a home job so i decided to try and take it off. After about an hour of work its lookin like this

Came off pretty clean. Im still workin on gettin the edges real clean, but save for a ding near the input the face is near flawless.
So i was thinkin of doin like warlock and puttin a top on it, but i cant cause well, im not him lol. My skills are limited so instead i was thinkin of doin a graphic vinyl to cover the face then clear the damn thing. My fear is the clear may ruin the decal. Any suggestions on the best way to go about this? Oh and im thinking some portion of lovecrafts nightmare for the graphic.

I can't help you with your question, but your idea sounds cool. Look forward to seeing it. Are you finishing the rest of the body, or just decal & clear?

Well im thinking i might as well try to sand out the dings in the clear, do a light sand, spray it with black, then decal and clear.

you're crazy man i LOVED that crackle finish. It was unique and the textured look was fantastic. It looked really sick and more quality than actual crackles where its just a chemical reaction that was cleared over. Oh well.

It looked cool from a few feet away, but up close made it look cheap to me. Who knows tho, the decal may look bad too lol

I would have the top refin'd to match the body. You add even add a graphic to the top as well. Decals are for model airplanes.

Fuck that shit!! jdr94 bought it and that's where the decision lies. I agree 100% on getting it where YOU want it jdr. Where you are right now is on the right track but a decal may send you off track. Problem with a decal (vinyl) is it is not thin enough to make a flat surface without a ton of clear. The good thing is depending on how nuts you want to go, you CAN do what you're looking for. It's a matter of systematically taping off and painting. A decal can help some in that as well. EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP THINKING THIS IS ROCKET SCIENCE!! This is not easy but it can be done and we're here to help and make suggestions. And if it doesn't work, sand and try again or send off for something better.

Daniel, I'll help with any part you need. Even send you tools you don't want to buy. I'll rent it for shipping cost. If you need it and don't mind shipping cheaper than buying, say so. YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO!! Very worst, try, fail, and say you tried and got experience. That's what we're here for.

Much appreciated bro. The main reason i was thinking decal cause id hate to pay someone to airbrush it and then it not look right. That and to do a section of lovecrafts nightmare would probably cost more than i can afford atm. Maybe ill just focus on gettin it nice and black then see how i feel about it. Who knows i may like the black when its pretty

On a serious note, Warlok sounds like a chill guy; willing to help out and what not. Just gets overzealous in situations that don't call for it lol.

This is how almost all the cases on Judge Judy's show start off . I didn't say he wasn't cool. I'm just pointing out that He just lost his shit when I was saying it was a shame cause it looked cool before you took off the finish. To be fair, it's only a picture and I've never seen it in real, so you're probably right about it feeling cheap and either way it's your guitar and you do what you want with it. I think it'll look sick. I think you're decal idea is promissing. With a nice clear it could have a really cool vibe to it. good luck

"Lost his shit".. That's the phrase my brother uses when we see someone snap.. Always makes me laugh. Sorry if I lost my shit. Wasn't meaning to. I was drunk and it didn't sound like I was snapping in my head, or beer.

bombtek - Porn is not bad.. but you definitely need to step away for a bit...

As far as the decals, the one going about the HS decals is kinda helpful as in which decal you get may be thicker or thinner. and harder or easier to clear over and cover. I guess it really depends on what graphic you want. If it's something that's normally airbrushed, that'll be tough with a decal.

Oh, wait a minute. Do you mean the "vinyl wrap" type things? That would be doable I guess. I just googled the nightmare thing you mentioned, that is a very very cool graphic!! I've never done anything with those vinyl wraps but could be worth a try if it's not too expensive. (If that was what you meant..). Just on a guess, I don't think you could clear over it because aren't they inkjet printed on the vinyl? Probably would run under the clear. But I think the ones I've seen are pretty glossy..

The graphic would basically be like my old jdr94. I just slapped the decal over the empty single coil route. I later put a single coil cover in there i think. Anyway kinda like that but better positioning of the design. Better quality. Just overall better version of the jdr94
