Don't know much about Charvel's, other than I know that I want a neck through.

What's the value of a Model 6? I see a couple on the 'Bay that I am interested in, but I don't really know what I am looking for.

Chances are it will need a refin, but that's not a big deal to me. I have the resources for a very low cost refin.

Basically, what should I be asking the seller, and what should I be looking for to make sure it is all stock, etc. I dont want a mutt or frankenstein guitar.

Je-1200 still there, fret condition, headstOck chips just everyday stuff. Ask if it's all original, serial number.

Nice ones that don't need a refin seem to be running around $600, plus or minus a little, and they're really not that hard to come by. The beat up ones I've seen don't tend to be discounted enough to make it a good deal to refin, even if you can get it done cheaply. Beaters tend to get that way because they've been neglected, so you usually end up with hardware & electronics issues that all add up to cost more than just getting a nice one in the first place. If restoring is your hobby and it's entertainment for you, and you don't mind ending up in the hole for more than you'll ever get back at resale, then getting a beater could make sense, I guess.

you can simply search "completed listings" on ebay. that will tell you exactly how much ppl pay for them.

I'd say $499 was a good deal. I paid $350 (without bridge PU or trem) + $40 shipping + $105 for an OFR for my Model 6. I had to wire it back up with the JE1200, a pair of J200's and a J80C, but it sounds great. It was sold as needing a refret job but I didn't think so. Some light dents but nothing major. No headstock nose rash. And it's solid black.
