  • Sooo I'm about to buy a Charvel Model 1 (or 2, not sure)

My friend is selling me his, he played it a dozen times or so live here in Miami, which I don't mind because he's responsible with his gear, and was just wondering if you guys knew how to confirm if this is either a Model 1 or 2 (sorry, don't know much about import Charvels)

    Here are some pics

    Soo? Which model is it?
How much is the MAXIMUM I should pay for one of these in such good condition?

    Thanks

EDIT: Also the neckplate says Forth Worth Tx, USA, what is this?

Ft Worth was the corporate headquarters. Anything with a Ft Worth plate was made in Japan.

I'm gonna guess that it is a mutt. Looks like a Model 2 body with a Model 4M neck or a Model 1 neck.

What sort of nut does it have?

Model 1s have trad trems. So it could be a Model 1 with a bridge mod

I guess it comes down the board, maple or rosewood. Model 1 has maple.

I watch them on Ebay and they sell all over the place. I'd say it would go for around $400 on the high side, super clean.

Or a Model 2 with a swapped neck.

Model 4M has a maple board too. It may be just a mod like mine. For a top mount Floyd there would be some shims in the neck pocket, or a Model 2 with a different neck.
How about a pic of the whole guitar in one shot? (GTWGITS!)

                EDIT- what DonP said, lol

No way 400, not in today's market. I'd say 250 tops.

Did we say it was a Model 4???

No, we did not. We said a Model 4 NECK.

                          You have a MUTT.

So it is a mutt eh? No chance it could be a Model 1 with a different trem then?

it is possible, but less likely. Someone would have to modify the body to accept the floating trem and add a locking nut to the headstock.

The nut looks original so it could be a 4M neck on a Model 2 body.

There were few import Charvels with maple fretboards, and the Model 4M had a non-reverse headstock with locking nut. The other Models with maple boards were the Model 1 (no locking nut) & the Model 88 (reverse headstock)
