  • Import Pro mod direct mount pickups and other questions

Regarding the direct mounted pickups on the import pro mods. Are the holes reamed out bigger for the direct mount screws or are they still threaded to make it possible to mount them with pickup rings, screws and springs on another guitar. Also is the neck heel compatible with the pocket of a USA pro mod body? I know its supposed to be the same but I was wondering if anyone had done a swap like that.

I have a usa production model neck on a japan premod body. The pickups I can't help you with.

Cool, and they mate up nice and snug? Just like factory?

Once the pups are direct mounted, the threads are toast.

The two Jap Pro Mods I played had less angle in the neck pocket then my USA Pro mods. This resulted in a little less pull up ability. Maybe it was just the two I looked at.

I've got an import Pro Mod neck, and it fits perfectly in my USA San Dimas body, as well as in my '87 Model 3 body. It will end up in the Model 3 body permanently. The fact that he's putting an import neck in the USA body will negate any issues you saw with less neck angle in the import Pro Mod.

Great guys. Thanks for the info. Now to find a pro mod neck. Id do either an import or usa but the ones on ebay all seem to be imports these days.

I added a little solder to the holes of a pickup that had the threads stripped and it held the P/U ring screws okay. Has anyone else tried this on the Import Pro Mods yet?

Thats a great idea if it was for my own use. I was actually asking for the possibility of having to part out one for the neck. Reamed out holes might kill the resale value of the pups.

The threads are fine on the pickups. They use small screws that go through the existing holes easily.

                        +1

They do not ream out the pickups. They use small wood screws that do not wreck the pickup's threads. Very nice of them to do so, IMO.
