  • Why are the later Japanese models under-valued? 2002's

I really hadnt noticed this as I havent been looking till now. I have a model A plus Koa that I was thinking of putting up for sale.

They only made 50 of these real duncans G&G case etc.

I figured this thing would bring 900+ on ebay but it seems no one really either A sells these or be sees them anymore.

Everything I see on the net is 5 years old and they are all the lower models but hell some of the lower models were going for like 200ish.

I wouldnt think of dropping this thing for less than 850. Am I off my rocker and didnt get the memo that these suck? Hell it plays amazing and is as good as any pro mod I have played....

I just picked up a Charvel Standard for $250 w/ohc. The seller wasn't having a lot of luck selling it on Craigslist and agreed to ship it from Florida. I consider myself lucky to have found it.

I hear ya Chris. I also have a Model A plus Koa and I've seen these languish at $400-500 on the bay and just don't get it. It may just be the ball sack headstock or people just don't know how nice these are. I may try to pick up another one some day if they continue to go so cheap. It was my understanding that these listed for over a grand when new. With a 24 fret neck, Ebony board with rolled edges and a koa top, I could care less about the headstock.

        BINGO!

Actually, I've just never crossed pathes with one so I have no idea of how they are, but if the price you are asking is within striking distance of a SoCal, why wouldn't I go for the SoCal instead? (Don't have a SoCal either, but I've played these).

Ive played the socal, I am more impressed with the AK....BUT I had a regular model a that was somewhat of a dog so maybe thats the reason.

Flirting with a socal sure...but flirting using a koa top and equally nice features IMO

You guys are so scared of the ball sack. It doesn't bother me, I just don't let it get too close to my face.

It does basically boil down to the headstock. If you aren't in a rush you would probably eventually get a buyer who knows how good they are and would offer real money for one, but the ballsack does turn away a lot of people.

I personally don't like anything but pointy HS's on Jacksons or Charvels. Keep the Fender one one Fenders IMO. But the one one the A+ is the worst one available IMO. Screams "cheap" to me even thought I know it's not.

They didn't sell to begin with. Most were blown out at under $500 new. Most of them had list prices new under $1,000 so why would they sell for new prices? Don't get me wrong they are great guitars. I've owned 6 of them.
