  • !! 750xl jt-590 replacement - need quick advice on floyd refit

After all these years - it's dead jim. Base threads are either stripped or stripping, completely failed at last nights gig.

Using Henriks most-excellent 750xl and trem guides, I've been trying to decide on a replacement. Using my digital calipers, everything seems to measure up correctly. Using my eyeballs and using an old OFR baseplate held over the posts it appears WAY off.

I could really use some advice from those who made the swap from the JT-590. I really can't afford too much downtime on this axe, lots of gigs and little time.

    What fits and what shits?
    750xl, 88LE, AT1, Roswell Pro, SG-X, 4 others...
Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...

Why do I still want MORE?

Best bet for everything to fit exactly is to get a Schaller Floyd Rose, which has exactly the same base plate as the 590 with the exception of having hardened inserts for the intonation screws. Warmoth usually seems to have the best price on them. You may need to use your original sustain block in case the 42mm version isn't available.

An OFR should work (there have been rare cases of intonation range issues when swapping OFR/Schaller, usually with low tunings), but if your baseplate check doesn't seem kosher, I'd just get a Schaller & be done with it.

Yes the Schaller, also known as Floyd Rose II, would work

The bridges branded Schaller and FRII are better than the JT-590.

Crushpuppy and I have only been playing out with Ghost211 for a few months. Bands that have around for years are asking how we are landing all these gigs, lol.

Not the first version of the FRII... it was single-locking and real cheap.
Besides that, the Schaller and the double-locking FRII are the same thing as the JT-590 which is Schaller made.

I always think of that cheap POS when the FRII is mentioned.

Warmoth does have the best price on the Schaller that I have found.

No Toejam, the Schaller branded have a different baseplate with hardened steel inserts for the allen wrenches of the saddles...

                            Update

Schaller dropped right in - kinda. Had to swap out the block for the original one, no prob. Kept the original claw. The new posts weren't even close, however. The old ones are still gettin it done so no worries.
Nice to have my baby back online!

Yeah, my 650xl has those posts too. They are really fat with super fine threads. Would the new post inserts fit
in the existing body holes if you were to swap the hole thing out??
