  • Found a Model 5FX for $259 at a pawn shop

But I'm a cheap ass and want them to come down $60 on the price. They have a Jackson Warrior bolt on that was originally $250 and they would let me have for $170. They won't come down on the Charvel because it just came in yesterday.

So do you play hardball and wait it out hoping it won't get snagged, or do you cave in and give them their asking price? Or do you go in there and noodle around driving them crazy until they give you you price just to get rid of you?

It's a black or dark dark green metallic. Toothepaste logo, tip is banged up a little, nasty 1 inch rash to the wood on a back edge, chrome JT-590 needs cleaning, frets need cleaning (ok everything needs cleaning), missing all the nut locks. J200R rails in the neck, covered bridge pickup I'm guessing is a J90C.

since you could easily sell it for $400 or I would have jumped on that no problem. You're being to much of a cheap ass, and I say this as an accountant.

      If it's a toothpaste it's not a 5FX, probably a 550 or something.

Yep, 550. Great deal as is, and I'd have probably walked out with it right then, but I can understand wanting to see if you can turn it into an epic deal.

couldn't let a deal like that go by, so I walked down there and picked it up. Great guitar

No, this one is in shittier condition But cleaned up it might look like that. It'll need a lot of elbow grease.

But yeah, that's it. I wasn't sure about calling it a Model with the toothepaste logo, but the only hum / slant single I knew of was the 5FX.

My reasoning for wanting the better deal is that they've already caved in on the Warrior. I'll pound them down some more tomorrow.

My pickup isn't covered either. Damn! My ruse has come undone

I don't know, Don. $259 for a neckthru Charvel with Schaller doesn't seem a bad price to me. Don't think there's any comparison to a bolt-on Warrior

It's the idea that they went from $249 down to $169 for that guitar. They have the room to budge, but they won't simply because the guitar hasn't been there for a long time.

I dunno how pawn shops are out where you live, but in my area if I lay money on the counter they tend to budge a bit. They've out and out told me that they mark things up with the expectation of not getting nearly as much (unless someone really green walks in).

If the bolt-on Warrior has a floyd I say do some bundle action and offer a price together on both!

The Warrior was a metallic red and is in better shape than the 550. Lighter weight, better feeling neck, not as bashed up, and with black hardware.

I'll bring in $200 in $20s and see what happens.

pawnshops around here are the same. They want to see if they can get the full marked price out of it, or close enough, since it has just arrived in store. Once it sits for a while, they'll either bring the sticker price down or be more open to negotiation. So it becomes a matter of whether you want to take your chances and hope the item is still there in a couple of weeks time to save a few bucks, or suck it up and pay the higher price. I've missed some great stuff by taking that risk and the article wasn't there when I came back. I've also grabbed some great deals doing the same. eg. my neckthru Yamaha RGX1203S dropped more than $400 hanging on the wall for 6 months. It's a nice guitar, but I was never going to pay $600 for it. Watched that sticker price creep down, and when they had a discount sale, I leapt on it. Paid $150, IIRC?

Sometimes, if I want something badly enough, I'll just accept that they aren't going to budge much on the price and pay what they want. In the end though, we don't NEED any of this stuff, so always be prepared to walk away.

I lost a Gibson 61 SG because they wanted $899 and I told them $800. It list at GC for $1999, and people try getting $1500 for these on TGP.
