Hi all,An import Charvel has cropped up for sale, the seller doesn't know the model. It has different pickups fitted, a schaller floyd and in general needs saving! Only have some pics for you and a SN (251825). Any help appreciated! Thanks

Looks like a parts mutt. And that's a jt6 trem not a schaller that apparently has been drilled to be lefty. The 2DR was a rosewood board. Unless there is a 2drm I'm not aware of. Needs love that's for sure. But could be cool with some tlc and the knob put back where its supposed to go. Also the 2dr had a blade switch not a toggle.

That neck is strange. But judging by the converted lefty trem Im thinking It was all the hardware from a lefty guitar switched on to a right handed body. Are the fret marker dots on the side of the neck on the bottom where you cant see them? That would prove if it was a lefty neck. Looks like a modded model 2 body. The horns look a bit thin but it probably just the shadows or something. There might be markings in the neck pocket and heel to tell the story for sure.

Most likely a modded Model 2 body with a Model 7 neck. Truss rod cover is probably missing because the original wouldn't go back on after adding the string lock.

If the price is right and the frets have life in them, I'd grab it. Model 7 necks are pretty highly sought after for parts projects due to the maple board & reverse headstock, plus the guitar is pretty cool as is.

After further questioning, it seems that the previous previous owner had recently completed a luthier course and used this as a project. The paint is non original, coil tapped humbucker and the bridge single coil is from a 70s strat ;/ Oh, and the tremolo was taken from a lefty!

I've been told the neck is a righty -The missing truss rod cover would make sense, guess I can't buy anything that would fit then? (Could knock something crude up!). The price is pretty cheap for a Charvel over here, so I think I'll take a gamble on it. Will make a cool project - refinish, new tremolo, new pickups, etc etc

You can make a cover easy with a grinder.

Yeah, its pretty much just a standard jackson cover that is cut down a bit. A grinder or a dremel or even a flat file will work for you. That said, if its cheap it should make a decent guitar. Mutts are cool.

Thanks for the truss rod advice. However, the guitar arrived today and it is the least of my worries...this charvel needs some serious love!



Headstock suffered a clean break in transit, probably because it was shipped just in an old hard case without padding and some tape over the latches ;/ Luckily I have the broken bit. Can I just use some wood glue for this?



Random stain on the fretboard...no idea what or how!




Random stains....anyone got any tips on what I can do to get it looking better? (or what it is!)



Dodgy routing and weirdly positioned - I want to fill in this cavity but am worried about indentations appearing after re-painting. Anyone know the best thing to do/use (apart from a veneer or something!) Also note how badly it has been painted



Couple of semi-deep scratches...any products to smooth her up?

Picture quality bad, taken from a crappy phone - Any advice really appreciated...this is going to be a bigger project than I thought! This weekend I plan to unbolt it and strip down the wood using various grit paper and hopefully someone can advise me on the best method re. the cavity.

Aaaanyway!

A little update. Stripped all hardware, including that dodgy lefty JT6! If anyone wants it for spares they can if they cover postage (although I am in the UK so up to you). Filled the neck pickup cavity with a bit of wood and a filler, and the weirdly placed control knobs with resin. After sanding, sanding and er more sanding I applied about 4 coats of primer (sanding inbetween). Still a way to go before it's ready for paint but getting somewhere!
