Just put in two singles and make them into a humbucker by wiring them in series and out of phase.

I have a fusion special which is basically the same guitar with the shorter scale. There is no denying that the single coil pickups on this guitar are the weakest link. I used a dremel to modify the pickup route and installed a full size bucker. Made a ton of difference. I also ordered a cheap floyd copy of ebay and replace the saddles on the schaller bridge to make it a double locker. Now it not only plays very well, it stays in tune and sounds awesome too. I had an evolution in it at one point and that pickup sounded fantastic in there!

I've hit a bit of a wall with this project. It seems that because the wires come out of the middle of the Duncans, I can't fit 2 in the bridge cavity. I'm now going to install the Seymour Duncan Hotrail in the bridge, keep the stock middle pickup and then use the Duncan Coolrail in the neck position.

Of course, if the path is drilled directly at the center(through to the bridge pickups then to the cavity) then it may not be a problem.
