I just saw this listing on preloved.co.uk, it is a Charvel Model 4M going for £175. I posted this because the body looks like it has an archtop. Did Model 4M's ever have archtopped bodies?

Like I said before it looks like someone ground down the edges of the body and refinished it. Its not really an arch top as much as it just has tapered edges.
Definately not an original Model 4 body. If someone belt sanded it they are pretty good at it, but I think they put the Model 4 electronics on a different body, probably drilled the switch mounting holes and bolted on the Charvel neck. Nice looking guitar though...

nope. 4M didn't exist in '86. It was introduced after they dropped the Kahler bridges
In a discussion on Facebook, we did discover there was a Japanese market Model 1AF. So a Model 1A with a Floyd. Might be hard to find, but an alternative to the 4M

Cheers! Thanks for the clarification. I believe if I'm going to go with a maple neck the Model 1C will do me fine with the no bones trem on it. There is, however, a niggling feeling I have that instead of trying to drop the active mid-boost in a Model 1C (with only two knobs, I might add), to simply go with the 4M, which already has the JE-1200 and just drop something hotter in there, like a J-90C or a J-95. It might be more cost effective and since those J200 are really like single coils, anyway (despite the double stacking), I'm probably going to get a very similar sound out of a 4M, I would think. It's just that the damn Floyd kills me!
