1989 650xl

Finally found a replacement for the Soloist I had to sell a few years back...

This one is MINT condition - like new and 100% stock. Picked it up last night and looking forward to having some time to plug in. So nice to have another sweet player, again!

Saw that one on C/L and was gonna post a heads up about it but didn't want to squash someones deal. Glad to see someone here from the JCF snapped that one up. I was semi-interested, but since I recently snagged a 750xl, I couldn't see persuing it.

I have a 550XL.

1) Is the color a metalic black with a slight green in it?

2) Is the neck fatter than normal? My 550XL and Model 5 FX have fatter necks than my two Model 6's or my Model 4.

This one was $600. Well worth it to me... Yeah, it's the stock metallic black and has lots of color in it. Some blue, some green... The neck is pretty standard for around that time. It's very similar to the '91 Soloist I had (wish it had the ebony fingerboard, tho).

Here are a couple next to my DK2M... Pretty similar in size, actually. The DK looks a bit thicker, but I think that's the light color creating an illusion because they're about identical.



This one shows the 650 being wider and it plays like it, too.

Seems like a very popular color on 1991 imports, this metallic black. I think the "5's" got fatter necks than the "6's" or "4's", at least with the small sample of axes I've come across.

It's not nearly as bad as that pic shows. Everything was very straight and clean when I bought it (2nd owner), but I gave it a fret-level and shaved the nut, which really helped. I like the look of maple fb, but not the feel... So it's someone else's now.

I have one in the same colour, but never bonded with it at all. I still prefer the earlier 6s, but the 650s are impressive and cool.......
