  • 7 or 8?

I'm getting the itch to get another promod and am thinking about the last 2 pro mod wild cards- the H/S primer model or the chrome flame. (don't hate me, but I think some of the japanese pro mods were better than their USA counterparts and CS models can be hit or miss)

With the Primer model, I'm like the configuration (yes, I like the yellow bits), but I'm not the biggest fan of a recessed trem. I'm also thinking of sending it off to learn or lawrence for a paint job. I'd love something as flashy as possible

The Chrome Flame already has a paint job and a non-recessed trem, but it only has one PU and I use my neck pup a lot. Is there anyone who could rout it for a neck PU?

If it were you, which one would you get?

I think the yellow bits on the #7 would match your glow in the dark hair

All I have are 2 MIJ's so why would I hate you? I missed out on the USA's.

As for which model I would get, I have an Aqua #4 and a white San Dimas. I think I'd get the Primer for the ebony (I'd have one of each flavor). It would need to be painted with matching headstock, and the yellow would need to be replaced with abolone or MOP dots. It would be nice if Primer wasn't recessed, but that doesn't bother me as much.

For you, it's an easy job routing a neck pickup (don't forget the drilling for the pickup lead). RobRR did a great job on his RR24M, putting a neck humbucker in his.

If you like the chrome rod flame graphic, then get a neck pup routed. If that graphic is just ok for you, then grab the primer model and send if off to Learn for a great skull graphic or to Dan for a custom HRF in yellow/black/white to tie in with the yellow logo on the grey headstock. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

I went with the 7. I do not like the recessed trem and thats really the only thing I don't care for on this guitar.
If I didn't already own a single hum Wild Card #3 I probably would have gone with the #8. And I hate EMG's.

Joking aside, I've thought about it.
For the longest time now, I've been wanting to incorporate either glow in the dark, or glows under blacklight. I wonder if there's a way to incorporate that into an argyle design. Maybe a fake glowing binding and an argyle body with matching headstock.

That is the thing with the pro mod wild cards and why it's so difficult choosing, it's because they kept adding features or looks you would really like, but whilst also keep adding features that were stupid or you absolutely couldn't live with. So when choosing you are asking yourself which you hate least... I guess they had to do something to make them distinct from CS's.

                        Example:
Wildcard #1 USA - Trans Candy Magenta - its pretty spot on...apart from the transparent paint, why isn't it solid paint...Oh FFS.
Wildcard #2 USA - Fiesta Red 1H - They got that one right, understated, nice and I have it.
Wildcard #3 USA Flat black 1H - got that one almost right too, chrome hardware would have been better....Don't like Black though and marks like a chalkboard but that is cool though and adds to the relic look....maybe?
Wildcard #4 Aqua- Beautiful quilted top and colour, classic looks '70's/'80's looks....but's its got a modern recessed trem...ewwh they were only just invented back then, let alone becoming recessed, it just doesn't suit the guitar IMO.
Wildcard #5 Molten Crust - Nice quilted top, classic '70's/'80's Charvel looks and calling out for cream pups....but again it has a modern recessed floyd...Ewwwh!
Wildcard #6 Dreamsicle - I like that one actually and have it but I have replaced chrome for brass including the bridge
Wildcard #7 Primer Scream - Ideal pup config and basic classic looking workhorse but what is with the toxic fret markers? FFS....again a recessed floyd...oh FFS.
Wildcard =8 Hot Rod - Yeah great classic '50's paint style and ebony board....but it has some modern EMG thing and a cavity for the ...battery? WTF?

Why do they tempt you like this, only to laugh in your face? I sincerely believe it's because it would take away from the prestige and classic styling of the CS's, or maybe they were trying to reach a bigger market....but who came up with these ideas? The way they turned out, I bet it was a consensus board decision, would have been better if its was just one bloke's ideas IMO.

And why didn't they make a 1H 1S Aqua with a non-recessed floyd....oh damn oh damn them to damnation..

I had been talking to Mike learn about a paintjob and He quoted me about $800 for what I wanted. Then I stumbled on a Jackson PC1 for under $1k and needles to sayy, I had no money left for the one of a kind finish I had requested. I found some Caution tape in the Halloween isle at a wallgreens drugstore and wrapped it around the charvel. For $3, I think the graphic looks awesome!

I had the Dead calm aqua and the wost parts of it were that in person it looked awesome, but it didn't photograph well and always looked dull. the Single coil PU's were also terrible. I didn't mind the recessed floyd as I have 4 Other Pro Mods w/ non-recessed trems. It lets me do cool tricks.

Personally, I love the new one. I love the PU configuration, I like the recessed floyd, the neck is effortless to play on, I only look at the top position markers when I play, so the yellow inlays don't bother me as I never see them. They also match the tape. The JB is nice and full and the STK1 is nice for a SC pup.

It's also worth mentioning- The Jap Pro Mod Wildcards have a slightly thinner neck carve than the regular Pro M0ds (USA and Jap)

Yeah I know what you mean, certainly the rosewood and ebony boarded ones, don't think there is anything in it with the maple one piece necks. I don't know if they are all necessarily thinner though, the ones I have are wider, which makes them feel skinnier, more like Jacksons I guess. I like the USA's, much more Fendery.

I think I'II get an Aqua if it ever pops up cheap. That tape has got to be the cheapest graphic ever though. Dear oh dear.

....Dear oh dear oh dear oh dear. !Looks good though!

Was that a veneer on your aqua, hidden with the aqua burst? didn't use a maple cap did they?
