  • NGD home run!

so it must be my lucky week or something. i posted up in another thread about the model 88 i scored. i also mentioned this 550 that i took a risk on, had a gut feeling it would be a good one. it is better than good!

when i tore it down i found it had four broken string holder insert thingys. so i grabbed the tremolo off the trusty 375 and strung her up. when i clipped the last string i remembered i have 6 brand new string holder insert thingys, oh well screw it. i'll play through these strings and fix it later.

i do have the rear cover and she is totally original and unmolested (until i got a hold of her). ohsc case with all latches in tact!! pumped

    glad to have silver hardware......soon

        Neck profile?

Paid twice as much as my metallic black one, but I think I would because that Silver is a great finish.

thanks guys, Don, the neck is just a tad thicker than my 375 and 88. i'll a/b them all day (my birthday!) and put up a better description of the necks in a few hours.
the bridge pickup looks to be a very hot gfs.

very nice, man. She's aged well too. I've seen too many of this finish aged to a weird yellow/green

That's too bad. Someone likely sold the original J90C for a stupid amount on ebay.

the neck on the 550 and my 88 are feel sort of similiar but noticably different at the same time, does that make any sense?! anyway, i took a set of calipers to the guitars.

at 12 the 550 fretboard is 1mm wider than the 88
at the nut, the 550 fretboard 3mm wider than the 88.
at the 12th fret the neck is 25mm thick on the 550 and 26 on the 88, string guages are the same.
at fret one both necks are 22mm thick.

well, now that you mentioned it, she sure looks nice and silver in the pictures, little more green in real life.

                        And happy birthday.
                        thanks!

If it was a Gibson, that greening would be a good thing LOL! Gold tops green because the paint is made with brass (and copper) which oxidizes green. You'll get a little yellowing from the clear coat changing from UV rays. A guitar left in case under bed won't yellow nearly as much.

I watched that one on the site for a few days amazed it didnt sell immediately. Had it sat another day id have had a hard time not buying it, the color is just freakin choice. Only way it would be better is with a maple board and MOP sharkies.
