  • Japanese Charvel Jackson Model 5A 1988

I am from Argentina and this is my first post.

    This is my new guitar:

I've bought it second-handed from a brazilian guy for 4100 pesos argentinos / 850 US dollars. Really a bargain because this guitar is about 6000 pesos argentinos / 1300 US dollars here in Argentina.

    It's a Charvel Jackson Japan Imported 1988 Model 5A neck-through serial number C802922.

Made in Chushin Gakki factory,(Chushin musical instruments factory), Nagano province, Japan.

    Tech details:

Woods: Poplar body, Maple neck, Rosewood fretboard.

Bridge: Jackson JT-6 Floyd Rose Licensed 1988 serial number #50021588 bronze block, made in Taiwan.

    Pickups: Jackson J95

    Config: 1 volume.

    Paint: Champagne sparkle pink.

    Aditional luth: scalopped fretboard.

Came all dirty, with the microphone loose, uncalibrated, with two marks one at the tip of the mast, and one at the bottom of the body. no tremolo arm and original case of Charvel almost completely destroyed.

The case it's really a Fender Tweed Case with the Charvel logo.

I'm going to calibrate, I will put new strings that i bought a couple of months ago, Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 0.10 that are the ones i always use, they are expensive but last more than a year without cutting off if the guitar is well calibrated and not oxidized at all, plus they are very manageable and they dont burn so easy. I'll see if I can get the push-in tremolo arm, i got a schaller arm with the socket, so im going to change the socket type...
Now i'll put the microphone in position, ready to be calibrated and wipe the body dry and then I'll clean all parts with Blem and I will oil the metal parts to maintain them. After that I'll put the new strings and calibrate.
Uncalibrated probe and came across as horrible, and just sounded good, I hope to upload a demo as soon as I have revamped her.

    Heres the complete galery. Enjoy.

Still a great looking guitar if a little rough around the edges.

Wow. I think you'd be lucky to get 1/2 that price for it in the US. Scalloped fretboard would scare me off. I think if I sold all my guitars in Argentina for double what I paid for them, you guys would still think it's a great bargain!

i didn't want a scalopped fretboard, because i hadn't tried it before... now i love it! it's a great thing when you have fat fingers.

never the less, thank you! you are right... guitars aren't cheap here... like everything else... i tried contacting some people in the us to buy a charvel 5fx, but no one wanted to export a guitar... i was willing to pay 1000 dollars + taxes... but there isn't enough trust in latin-american countries...
or maybe there're lots of thieves around...

i love this forum, it has tons of experiences, knowledge and good willing people.

now i want to get a Soldano SLO100... mission imposible here... maybe in 5 more years...

an update... now it has the schaller trem arm, new strings and calibration...

                  it sounds great...

in the end I did not put the green ernie ball that are 0.10, i used the ernie ball pink package 0.09 because they are more soft and malleable, more with the floating bridge ... its awesome ...
