Charvel Desolation Pro Stock models are now up for preorder at some websites. According to a Charvel rep in a recent video, they are like the Desolation series with more vintage features like passive pickups and different finishes or something. There's a couple of teaser pics here: http://web.stagram.com/n/charvelusa/ but these are the best i could find so far:

I have to say the MIC Charvels play nicely, have decent neck profiles and are equipped with pretty decent hardware.
The problem I have is that the overall QC of these guitars is marginal at best. If you have OCD or you're picky about flaws, almost everything will bug you.
Honestly, they're a good value for the money, but if you consider what the used market is like, everything is undervalued and your money is better spent buying something nicer that's used.
If you're on a budget, they're pretty decent. If you're not, save up an extra month or two and buy something nicer. I really liked my DX1, it sounds good, it plays really good, the hardware is top notch, but overall there's nothing really special about it and a lot to be nitpicky about. The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

Xenophone: Would you advise picking one up for a bit of fun though?
I've got 14 electric guitars, in amongst that is 5 Japanese Jackson and Charvels. When the Desolation series got announced I was interested in the single cut, tried out a DS-2 and a DS-1 in store and decided that I would pick up a DS-2 later. After fixating on Doug Aldrich videos on youtube recently I started thinking "Gold Top!" and now this beauty appears

Meh... I don't like 'em. I would rather buy a used japanese Charvel and save some money. The only mic charvel I would get is their new star, because you don't really see those shapes for sell that often.Jackson ke3 kelly trans blue

I already said- no Chinese guitars for me, I dont care who make's em! Those guitars look pretty cool but they probably cost 100 bucks to make from China and its sad to see just about everything (amps, effects etc) being made in freakin China. I was lucky enough to score a "sold as new" Wild Card 4 last week for 499- but that will probably be my last new Charvel for awhile unless it's a CS job. Used market is where I'll be shopping from now on unless FMIC gets their heads out of their *&(*&( and starts to make production guitars in USA or Japan.

You can get a minty or near minty USA Charvel for about $800-$900. Can I recommend a new MIC guitar for about 1/3-1/2 that price? Not really. Buy one if you like the looks of it, you'll probably have a decent player with a nice neck. Again, I can't honestly recommend it. Read my in-depth DX1 review. I bought it just to trash it and make fun of it, but in all honesty, it was a decent beginner's guitar. That being said, I'm trying to sell it and nobody is buying, and I'm offering it for about the same price as a Refurb/B-stock guitar...
I guess you really didn't read what I had to say.
