    NGD Charvel 750XL

    I actually picker her up last Friday but I just havent had the chance to take her picture. this guitar does have an issue which is discussed in another thread here http://www.jcfonline.com/threads/135...t=#post1544316

    Really even the way it is its a non issue, after setting her up the guitar plays beautiful and I am totally thrilled with the purchase. It is going to my guitar guy on Saturday to get the repair done. You really cannot even see it with the naked eye. I got the whole story from the seller who bought it new in 89. His teenage kids knocked her over and thats how the damage occured. I set her up last Saturday and have played her everyday, stays in perfect tune, neck is straight

    Absolutely no fret wear whatsoever, looks like it really hasn't been even played at all. there is one scratch on the back, on very minor ding on the bottom and the rest is flawless

    The one thing I do not like is the tone, it is very fat and I think it was DonP that mentioned his was that way too. So she is definitely going to get new pickups as soon as I can figure out which ones to get.

    Please feel free to make some suggestions for her

      Thanks kuerbo, I have a minty magenta 650 that has faded to a pinkish color that I truly love as well. It was the 650XL that really turned me on to acquiring the Charvels as I had a small collection of the Jackson professionals and never really experienced a Charvel. I truly love the Jackson Charvel imports from this era.

        As I mentioned before I went with a full shred set. Mine is even fatter:

        1) because it's a fixed bridge

        2) because the bridge pickup is routed away from the bridge, closer to the neck than with the trem versions.

        The full shred set is still fat and chunky in mine. If I change again, I'm going with something PAF'ish. I think Burstbucker Pros would go great with this axe. Or something like a J50B or BC. Maybe a B for the neck and a BC for the bridge.

        Personally I wouldn't mess with yours. I'd leave it as-is. Mine came without pickups. Also, mine is a little newer and doesn't have oversized pickups. If you swap in new pickups you will have an ugly gap around the pickup.

          DonP, I did not realize that this had oversized pickups? I would hate to have an ugly gap anywhere. Damnit why does this have to be so complicated lol.

            If you really want to swap the pickups, you could get oversize pickup rings made that fit standard size pickups with no ugly gap. Frets on the net makes them and cuts the inside hole to fit whatever pickup you want. I swapped out an oversize with a standard on a soloist using one of his rings and there is no gap.

                If you don't like the pickups, I think it's the way to go. Much better looking than a gap on such a gorgeous guitar!

                He's pretty swamped, but usually takes custom orders at the beginning of the month. Very cool guy to work with. He either is or was a member here, not sure which...

                      Actually I am starting to like the tone. It is just so different from all my other guitars I was like wtf at first. But I am really starting to like it now and think I will leave it alone just for a bit.

                        The mahogany body means that it will have a fat tone and mega sustain regardless of what pickups are used - my fixed-bridge archtop soloist has the same tone (stock pickups). I notice it much more when I'm playing a bolt-on basswood or alder bodied guitar (say a RG550) and then switch to the soloist. IMHO you should keep it original as it is such a great instrument :-)

                          1994 I think I am leaning that way. it was just so different I think it threw me off. I played with some backing tracks then listened the next day and it sounds great. The project 750 that is underway will not have stocks in it so I am cool with leaving her original.
