With the 2+ year wait on custom shop charvels, I am thinking of having one of my model 2 refinish in sonic or robins egg blue. I want a finish like the original hard finish. Any tips?

No answers, but many questions.
You have an interesting array of guitars.
How many LPs, and of which models?
Do you, as an owner and player of each, believe that your 750XL is the proverbial "Les Paul killer" that it's touted to be?
I play both as well but never heard anyone else's opinion.
Obvious Q: How/where do the Model 2s fit in?Mitch

I have (4) LPs Std, Classic, Trad Pro, Studio.
The 750XL is awesome, it's not a les paul, but let me put it you this way, it would be the last of my guitars I would ever part with. I don't think anything but a Les Paul sounds like a Les Paul. To be perfectly honest I love Charvels. I got into the Gibsons for the tone and fixed bridges, much easier on changing tuning. The PRS was more of a just try it out, I really like it also. It's not a Les Paul and not a Charvel. I still need a Fender Strat also. I would love to pick up a US Charvel but 2 year wait on the CS, forget it. The model 2 screams 80s superstrat with one HB and and trem, was in highschool in the 80s so this guitar is stuck in my head, it's also got a great neck and build quality and sounds awesome.Last edited by titan7; 12-17-2012, 02:30 AM.750XL Cherry Sunburst

I agree about the 750XL vs. Les Pauls. I have a 2002 Std, 1996 Classic PP, 1977 Custom, 1956 Les Paul, 2004 R0, and a 2009 CR8. The 750XL is a great guitar but it won't kill one of my LP's. Remember that they all have different pickups, so that's a factor too. None of these sound alike to me.

Thanks, I am not a graphics on guitars guy but he does awesome work. I just want a "old school" Robins Egg or Sonic Blue Charvel with a hard poly finish. I was going to go with a wilmoth (sp) but then the charvel neck will not work, and the volume knob is in the wrong place. Can't win. So I figured, I have a couple blue charvel model 2s. I could have one refinished.
This would also be the time to plug and redrill the pick up ring holes so I could fit a standard sized pick up ring and I can finally have a cream pick ring to go with the double cream pickup. Also no big gap!! I am not concerned with modding it as the prior owner took our the J-90c pick up and it has a broken black pup ring.
I figure purchasing a strat body and having it finished would cost more than a refinish of the body of my number 2.

Mike doesn't only do graphics, as mentioned. He's excellent to work with, more affordable than you may expect, and does wonderful work. He's my go to paint dude.
