  • Model series refinish and parts compatability prep questions.

So I am going to re-finish one of my model 2s. I am doing a Daphne Blue, and I want to put a double cream SD in the bridge with a cream pick up ring. So have heard the charvel rings are bigger? Well since I am doing a refinish I will have the holes plugged and redrill new holes for a standard sized ring. will the old hole location be visable once a standard ring is mounted? Also, I am putting a German FR on this guitar, should I pull the old jackson studs out and replace them with FR studs? Finally I believe a MIJ promod neck will fit the model #2 pocket? will the aluminum control plates fit? thanks!

On my model 6, it was close, but the pup hole didn't show where the new ring sat. For the German FR (I assume you mean OFR??) you don't need to change the studs as you'll get about 95% of the travel that the JT6 had. If you really want to, fretsonthenet.com sells conversion studs for installing an OFR with 100%+ travel. Don't know about the control plates...

I put a MIJ pro mod neck on my model 4, it fitted almost perfectly. The is a tiny gap along the top side of the neck pocket, about 0.5mm. I had the guitar setup with the neck and the tech said it was fine, plays great.

The promod neck should fit fine, not sure how well the neck screws will line up, you'll have to test it out yourself... might fit perfectly, might be off a little... The screw holes will be covered by the standard size pickup rings. Control plates may or may not fit... there are several different sizes. Screw holes may or may not line up either. The FR studs are nicer than the JT6 studs... if they're really worn, yeah, I'd pull, dowel and redrill for OFR bushings.

Well I got an All parts pick up ring, the original holes from the oversized Jackson ring are outside of the std ring so this won't work too well. Perhaps cream spray paint?

On to the trem. So if I pull the bushings out I can't just press the Floyd rose bushing in the same hole? I do have some frets on the net studs that will provide more range but they are black not chrome and I plan on switching everything to chrome as I think it would look better with daphne blue. I am now thinking of just using my original pointy neck since the are no more pro mod necks on eBay. I can get the body refinished for 260 and then I am putting a nos brass volume knob and strap buttons on it alone with a chrome Floyd rose and zebra or double cream super d pick up. I may have the string lock chrome plated if possible as I have never seen a chrome version of it. Should look killer.

Try Dave at fretsonthenet.com He might be able to make an oversized cream ring, and it won't have that large cap either (he'll custom fit to the pickup of your choice).
