  • Charvette 200

Hello guys. Im eye balling a charvette 200 up at a local-ish music shop thats going pretty cheap, Just a vintage tremolo HSS little beastie. From what Ive read its not going to be the mac daddy of guitars. But If someone here has owned one could you please give me an idea of what its like to live with i.e. worth £100 to turn into a little ripper. Basically its just going to be something for me to tweak and piss around with and I always fancied whacking a sustainer in something but I dont dare chop up my nice 6 stringers. Thanks.

If it has a wide dot neck and plywood body, I wouldn't bother with it.
If it has a narrow dot neck and solid wood body, could be cool to mod.
    Models
The prudes may snub them, but I don't care.
    I dont need furniture.
If its tough, shreds, and screams, Its all good.
If it gets jacked, I'll get another one.
    And rock that sucker.

Cheers buddy. Is there much difference tonally between them? If it really is that gash I might still get it just to keep on top of me soldering instead of trying to make it sound super bitching.

If its the solid wood by all means get it.
The trems varied some and most had a single locking trem that weren't all that good.
        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I've owned a few Charvettes over the years and can really only recommend the solid body, Japanese built versions of the 170 and 270 models. These are fusion scale and built well with halfway decent trems. I picked up a Charvette 200 series (white with a vintage type 6 screw trem) several years ago for about $50. It was plywood, sounded like poo poo and really wasn't a very good guitar. For $50 US, I'd say go for it but for the money you're talking about, I'd personally look elsewhere.

Thanks guys. tcwil if I could find something like this for $50 which is about £30 here I'd be out treasure hunting like mad haha, Thats one thing I envy about you guys over the pond, You guys have an abundance of cool things going dirt cheap. But £30 over here gets you jack shit, Your lucky to get a used Squier for less than £100. Im not after a golden child. Just wanting to make sure its solid enough to tinker with. i.e. not start falling to pieces if theres a tremor the other side of the planet. I have my guitar box which is just full of old pickups, wiring, bits that are too good to throw away and would hopefully like to make a cool little guitar out of.
