it actually plays better than the USA one i have. the fret work is incredible,it is the only guitar i ever owned that had fret work that was like it was plek'd.
My usa san dimas is amazing too but the fret work is not quite as precise as the MIJ
agreed 100%. my dreamsicle is better made, better paint, better neck, than the USA SoCal I had for a few years. I picked the dreamsicle up on a lark after having sold my USA SoCal, and I am very glad I did.

    super guitar.

and even better, I got mine for $499 at Sam Ash, after it had been sitting there for about 6 months or more. just kept hemming and hawing, and they kept dropping the price on it until I said yes.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

The Charvel Pro Mod So Cal 2013 marks the rebirth of a legendary electric guitar. The original So Cal was well loved for its trailblazing 'hot-rod' attitude that did away with worrying about pretty vintage appointments but instead was laden with a Floyd Rose trem, high output pickups and super fast neck. The new 2013 Charvel Pro Mod So Cal features Seymour Duncan pickups, recessed licensed Floyd Rose trem and compound radius fretboard, so once against there's a seriously hot-rodded super-strat on the market challenging the status quo!

First official pic I`ve found of the new models.

I love the colour of the So Cal

Actually, looking back at roodyrocker's pics from NAMM these are actually pictures of those same guitars.

I like that they went to Schaller style buttons on the tuners over the Grover kidney beans, but I have to agree that they do look a little strange with the Floyd route. Really digging the blue So-Cal though.

And to CHARVEL_strat_81 and Skorb I didn't care for the necks on the MIJ for many reasons, but to each there own. We'll see how these Mexican strats are.

Even the MII SDX/AS got the 12th fret dots right, ho hum on these sorry.
I'm sure they play fine and that is what matters.
                    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

                      Hardtail bridge is wrong.
That has to be fixed. You don't just pull from the generic fender parts bin.

Hardtail Bridge - Cheap and no original
Fret dots - Even though 99% of MIM's are the correct post 50's spacing, so what is the deal, or were the Namm guitars made by a crew who were making the vintage Fenders and producing 50's fret dots or a deliberate attempt to distinguish from USA Pro Mods?
Tuners - Cheaper than Grovers, which I liked actually
All Recessed Trems - Eu - No non recessed options available.

On the plus side the candy paints look great and so do the necks.

But for £573.00 with a recessed trem, cheap hardware and bad fret dots I think I'II pass and get another few used USA's.

Next thing you know they'll be doing Fender truss rods that adjust at the headstock. May as well call them Fenders.

Harping on the fret dots when we STILL haven't seen a production model is a little bit silly. That can be easily fixed before these hit the stores. Tuners and bridges can be changed.

The recessed trems, well too bad. Maybe they'll do like the other runs but this time make non-recessed models for the wild cards. Other wise you have a gazillion non-recessed used pro-mods to choose from.

                              So…
A year ago or so, the MIJ Pro Mod Series (So Cal and San Dimas) each clocked in at around $900 on the street…
                              On the new MIM Pro Mod Series ($850 – $900 street);
                              * Charvel branded tuners replace Grover tuners
                              * I don’t see Dunlop strap locks – just standard buttons (not trying to flare up a Dunlop/Schaller/big a$$ flat washer debate)
                              * No mention of the SKB hardshell case returning
                              * Cheaper for FMIC to ship from Mexico vs. Japan
                              * When Fender produced models in Japan, the MIM models were typically perceived to be a notch below in quality. We’ll have to see what the new models hold but there’s quite a bit of dilution between the Charvel Pro Mods, Jackson Pro Series & the EVH Striped Series – all being made under the same roof.

same in Japan, the Jacksons were being made there when there weren't any charvels and the EVH wolfgangs that were MIJ were being made there too. So what's the different??
