  • I have not yet seen a new Pro Mod in stock anywhere, but I have played an EVH striped series and was a little impressed. I liked it waaayyy better than any Japanese Pro Mod I played. I did not like the weight or the necks on the Japanese Pro Mods and the EVH had a really nice weight to it and the neck wasn't tinted that crappy yellow and the fretwork was better. The set up however was horrible, but it was on the wall in a music store so I am not sure if it was factory or their doing. But I definitely want an EVH, just need to decide on black/white or black/yellow...

If the new Pro Mods are anything like the EVH series, I think people will be really happy with them.

Interesting! Will have to try those new EVH. Would not say no to a black/yellow.

                • Update: Got a tracking number for my SD1 HH! Probably won't deliver until Monday. I was having some second thoughts on the color so I contacted the store I had made the deposit with and they had just got in a candy apple red. I decided I had plenty of black guitars (had a blackburst on order) so took the plunge. Pic's and a rundown on it when it arrives. Oh, and just got a message from Curt at Squid Music that my hardtail just came in as well. Feeling pretty fortunate these days

                  • Hey guys. Been a LONG time since posting or even looking at this site. I have a bunch of Charvels from the '80 and one from the early 2000s....
Anyhow I got my hands on a snow white MIM Pro Mod. I got the one with the pic guard because I've always been a Jake E Lee fan
It plays pretty well, I just set it up last night but haven't done intonation yet. I'm letting it settle first and get things how I like them then I'll hit that. The quality is fairly good. It has the wonderful rounded off fret edges on the neck and I like that it is very light in color. I don't like the yellow tint of the MIJ ones. The sanding is a bit rough and could be better. Mine actually looks like the very end of the fretboard that hangs off the neck wasn't sanded at all..... Guitar is a little light. Not anywhere as heavy as my other Charvies. Sustain takes a hit there. I will be ordering a big brass block for the trem if not replacing it totally with a German OFR.

Anybody else playing these MIM shovels yet? I'm not sure I love mine, but I like it. It usually takes about 3-4 years until I love my instruments anyway.

                    • I got the candy apple red HT from MF but ended up sending it back. I thought it was too light in weight. I thought it would feel like a hard tail version of my USA San Dimas 1 and SoCal. It didn't so I sent it back.

Mine feels feather weight too. It has nice tone, but sustain is kind of lacking. Jury is still out on this one for me.

                        • I like heavy to really heavy guitars, so I don`t know if I would feel comfortable with the light weight either.

                          • Ugh...that sucks all yinz that own/played one of these are saying they're light!!!

That was one of the things I didn't like about the Japanese ones, they were too light weight.

The EVH Striped series I played had a nice weight to it, didn't feel too light at all, and I have played some Mexican Fenders that had a good weight to them too.

Sweetwater has a Candy Red So Cal they list at 6lbs 10oz.

No EVHs in stock yet to see how they weigh in, but the lowest priced Mexican strat they have ($399), they have weighing in at 8lbs 3oz and 7lbs 14oz, and a different colored one for 8lbs 11oz...and they aren't even Meixcan, they're Chinese

Like Ricker, I was hoping these would feel more like a USA.

                            • My Jap Chrome Rod and Dead Calm Aqua have plenty of weight to them. Especially the Chrome Rod. They might have used different woods in the Wildcards though.

                              • I like light/med weight guitars. I have a USA promod SD1 that weighs 8lbs and another that weighs 7.2lbs. I like the tone of the lighter one best. It just sounds a little more full/ less bright but both are stellar guitars. I have had six of these pass through my hands and one weighed almost 9lbs and sounded dead. I think that as with all production guitars best to play before you buy if possible.
