  • Advice on a trade

I have a friend who wants to trade me his Charvackson. It a USA Jackson neck on a blue Charvel Model 2 body w/Floyd Rose term and JB Pickup. Plays really nice! He wants to trade me for a 04 Les Paul Studio I have. Thoughts?

What type of Jackson USA neck? Strathead? 22 fret DK1? or the everyday ones with rosewood and dots?

I think you would be on the loosing end of that deal. I'd give $500 AT MOST for his guitar WITH CASE.

What do you think your LP is worth? Price some out on completed ebay sales.

I think I'd ask for cash with his guitar - $200 to $300.

The neck on it is a 22 fret pointy Jackson head stock with "made in USA" on it. Locking nut, and ebony fretboard. The neck plate is a Jackson four digit serial neck plate too. Dot inlay. Real floyd trem.

My studio has some buckle rash on the back but nothing major.

Ivory fretboard? Do you mean ebony? If it has the ebony board with the Jackson San Dimas neckplate and an OFR I would jump on it. I have seen studios sell for as low as $350 for the faded series and some Jackson necks sell for that much and more. Which do you have, the faded or painted? Either way I would do it if it was me, but I am partial to Jackson so... my opinion may be tainted!!!

Sorry guys Ebony fret board. Here are some pictures. My friend purchased this guitar from guitar center, I was with him when he go it . I could tell the neck did not appear to be the original neck. The only thing that made me believe that was the neck was mounted at a slight angle where it made the trem/bridge really high off the body. He had the body neck pocked adjusted by a luthier se the neck sat more flush allowing the trem to be at a normal hight from the body. I playes excellent! Real floyd rose trem. I'm thinking maybe the body is from an 87 model 2? Neck maybe from an soloist San Dimas? Neck plate has a 4 digit serial. Here are some pictures. Let me know what you guys think.

As far as my Les Paul Studio goes. Its an 08 gloss black with vintage tuners and 50's styly neck and I hate it...

Soloist is a neck thru not a bolt on.
If you don't like the neck on the studio then I'd say make the trade but ask for $100 cash to you at least.
                Really? well screw Mark Twain.

hmmmm. I would say if you hate the les paul the choice should be obvious. I agree with straycat. Do the trade and have him kick in 100 bucks.

I love that blue and it looks killer with that ebony board. I guess it could be a Model 2 body, but I dont fully understand why he'd need to have the neck pocket routed out to give it the angle needed... Model 2's should have already had the correctly angled pocket for the OFR... or am I crazy?

The strings were 1 1/2" off the body. It just didn't look right.

An ebony fretboard and the neck plate (not mentioned in the original post) makes his guitar worth more than I originally thought.

Also, you first said the Studio was an 04 and now it's an 08?

                      Do the trade.
