My delivery came yesterday at about noon. I've been able to spend some quality time with the guitar in order to give it a fair evaluation based on my own extremely biased opinion...
This is my 6th pro mod. I have 4 usa's, one MIJ (Wildcard 6) and now the MIM SD1. If you've followed the Mexico Pro Mod thread, you may recall that I changed colors from black burst to the first guitar the vendor got in - pics below...
It survived USPS shipping without incident and in tune! Fret edges smooth, neck smooth and fast - profile is along the lines of my Trans Kandy Gold HSS USA. Unplugged it has a great acoustic resonance, stock strings very playable, might be d'addario's. Action was low, no buzzing anywhere - just perfect for my tastes.
I know some of you don't care for a recessed floyd - I don't mind it at all since it feels a bit like my SL2H. Works great and is very comfortable - I even swapped out guitars with top mounts to see how much I'd notice it and it wasn't an issue. One noticeable improvement, at least compared to my other guitars is the volume pot - super smooth (I like that word apparently) roll off / on - vol swells no problem - I'd call it a cross between my USA Pro Mods, and my EVH Striped series vol pot. The pickup selector also operates flawlessly and is all black with a slightly larger knob than the USA's.
Playing it through my 50W EVH III Combo on channel 1 clean, I could almost, and I might be stretching it a bit, get a fender blackface clean strat like honk in the neck positon, with a touch of reverb. Channel 2 and 3 put a huge smile on my face as I slipped into some old school Priest, Sabbath, EVH and Pantera.
Very happy with this guitar and I expect it to be in first position for some time - until my hardtail arrives at least...
Tree is reflecting in the paint - which is flawless...
The pics I took of the back of the guitar didn't come out, so I'll add some new one's later. Serial numbers are CM000000 with Charvel made in mexico stamped on the neckplate along with the San Dimas address.
