  • NGD '87 Charvel Model 6

**This is a direct copy from my sevenstring dot org post. Any help with parts would be appreciated.**

Found this on craigslist for $450. '87 Model 6. The body, paint and frets are in excellent condition for a 26 year old guitar. No significant belt rash, just the usual fine scratches here and there. The only significant ding is on the headstock. I am going to try to get it back in original shape, enjoy it for a while and then probably sell it. It needs a whammy bar and a lock block on the trem. A modified schaller bar from fretsonthenet will work for the whammy, but I can't seem to locate an original lock block yet. Unfortunately someone removed the JE1200 circuit, so I will be on the lookout for one of those. It has a duncan SH-1 in the bridge (ugh, the gold.... why?) and everything else has been bypassed out. Fortunately the original J-50BC was included, but I will need to rewire everything. It plays like a dream and the trem has relatively little corrosion, only a bit on the fine tuners. The body is nice and dense, which I prefer and it sustains forever. I can't wait to get it into shape, but waiting on parts is so stinking slow.... anyway enjoy the picks. Sorry for the quality, all I have is my phone right now.

Nice score!!! A used JT-6 should be alittle easier to find than just the parts to fix that one, atleast I would think so.

Nice score, I'd drop the 50c back in it or maybe even a 90c until you find the mid-boost.
        Great guitar!

I'm picking up a replica JE-1200 from ebay to try out. The guy at alienxnation is asking ridiculous prices for his stuff so I figure it's worth a shot at least. The circuit isn't that complicated anyway so I don't see how it could be too far off. As for the trem, I don't really want to get a whole new one just for one string lock block, but we'll see. I will call around to some shops and see what I can find. A lot of techs have that sort of thing just floating around the parts bin in the back room.

Errrrm you know that gold cover will come right off if it IS a Seymour Duncan pickup. Might have to bend a lip on the back of it to get it off, but they do come off fairly easily, and underneath SHOULD be a logo'd p/u.

Didn't know that covered duncans were made that way. Thanks for the tip. After I get the active circuit installed, I will A/B it with the J50BC and see what I like better. If I keep the duncan I will have to get a replacement ring from fretsonthenet though, because it flops around pretty bad right now in that giant hole.

Let us know how that boost works.

I have never owned anything with a JE-1200 before, so I don't really have anything to measure it against. But at least I'll be able to tell you if it sucks!

If you like the Duncan better just swap the Jackson cover on it, they come off the J50's pretty easy; no need to drill smaller ring holes.
                      Should fit fine.

My model 4 has the Jackson mid-boost with the J50.
Has a tighter focused distortion than a J90, closer sound to a J95 not on boost, slightly less output to the amp.

Just cleaned it up, restrung and swapped the J50BC back in. As it turns out, the duncan that was in the bridge was a neck pup (SH-1N), so it is going up on the bay, unless one of you wants to buy it. For some reason the J50BC was wired wrong, so it was no wonder the guy didn't like it. After I paired the wires properly it was good to go. The fingerboard was filthy, like it had been barely cleaned in 26 years with green stuff on it. I used a double sized piece of gorgomyte on it, and it was completely black when I got done. I will hit it again when I do the wiring and clean the bridge just for good measure. Plays nice and smooth now.

*Edit* Just scored a full saddle assembly off of ebay for $20. Now all I need are the bar and back plates off of fretsonthenet and I will be set.

The guy AN is an ass.I wouldn't buy anything from him.
I have one mid boost harness laying in my box.Just needs to have a few wires reattached.I have one spare JT-6 locking block too.
The J 50's are great pick ups IMO
                              Really? well screw Mark Twain.
