Well I can say you haven't lost a coil or anything like that.

J90C's are my favorite humbuckers. If you don't want it I'll take it!

            Hi!

I have the same problem with my J90C. I bought a 87 usa dinky recently, and thought it has a J50 because the low humbucker output. I tried to play the ratt song, nobody rides for free, but the intro with the palm muted harmonics sound horrible. I think the output is not enough to drive the poweramp.

I checked yesterday and it has a J90 C. Everything is original on the guitar, no active eletronics, just a humbucker and a J100. The pickup is as high as possible. No noise. I dont know what is the problem.

As I said, the J90C is my favorite pickup of all time....but the J50BC is no slouch either. They both were MADE for that 80s hard rock tone and both do it extremely well. So thinking that it might have been a J50 and that was the cause for your problem...well that was of the mark. My guess is a bad ground somewhere stealing the pickups tone. How does the J100 single sound?

J 200's need the active mid boost to work properly. With out the mid boost they are dark and muddy.
Lots of extra wire in the cavity that needs to come out.
I would gut it and get some new pots, an 022 cap and be done with it.
No sense in using the last pot ( mid boost control so essentially useless with out the board) so leave it in to fill the hole.
                Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Yeah the midboost pot is a dummy its not wired up at all .

I'm curious if the tech did something wring cause he didnt seem with it and was actually late by 2 hours to open his store on the day.

could a bad wire be why the output is hitting 14.60k and not 15.90k?

You need to get rid of the rats nest of wires in there first thing.
You could be getting interference from a lead just hanging there not hooked to anything.
You want a good clean signal path.
A pick up magnet will lose strength after many years so I wouldn't worry about that at all.Still should sound big and meaty.

Jackson humbucker wiring code is tape the red and white wire together green is the hot lead and black and bare wire are the ground.
Hard to see in the pic just how its wired.
Looks like he ran a ground under the mini switches which is kind of a lazy way to do it. I would fix that too.

Hot lead for the mini 's should come off the left lug of the vol pot connected to the center lug on all the mini switches. Each pick up hot lead goes to one side of the corresponding mini switch for that pick up. Maybe this will help.
