  • 750 XL Pickups

I just cannot stand the stock pickups in my 750. I really need some recommendations on some pickups to brighten the sound of this thing. I play everything from Blues to some Metal.

What's in it now? A simple pot and cap replacement can brighten up the tone and is way cheaper than replacing pickups.

There's several cheap and free things you can do such as changing pickup height, new string gauge. I haven't got a clue what's in that guitar pickup wise

It just sounds too dark and too flat. I have heard the same from other members as well. I have no problem with buying pickups.

To me, the only gripe I have with my 750XL are its pickups. They're just a little too weak for a guitar of this calibre.
But I do think that it sounds wicked with the middle+neck.

It's always been my opinion that the 750 as BORN to have P90s. Now if you don't want to surgically alter the guitar to make conventional P90s fit there is always the humbucker sized P90s that sound great as well. I use a set from GFS in one of my Agiles. But that was only because I was being lazy and didn't want to go through the hassle of routing.
If the 750 was mine I'd go full out on it with a set of Lollars routed in properly.

I started with a Duncan Mayhem set, but it was just too hot, too compressed. I currently have a Full Shred set. Mine is mahogany and a fixed bridge.

Is yours a fixed bridge or Floyd?

                Mahogany body or alder?

I agree with donp the full shreds are amazing pickups. I'd try those, a JB would probably be great in it if its that dark sounding

Dimartini RTM or a BKP Nailbomb would do that guitar JUSTICE!

Mine is a floyd and it is Mahogany body. With the full shreds do I get one for he neck too? I do have a JB in my Dinky Standard and like that pickup in that guitar. What neck pickup would you suggest for the JB? I may just get both sets as I do have another guitar I could put some pickups in.

I thought it was determined that solid color 750XLs were actually basswood and only the trans colors were mahogany.

                              Ok, mahogany or *NOT* mahogany

Whether or not you want a full shred neck is up to you, but a lot of people like this neck pickup.
