  • MIJ San Dimas on the way, bridge/radius questions

    My first post here!

I've got a lightly used MIJ San Dimas 1HH on the way. I'm super excited and have read a lot of varying opinions on the Ping bridge.

I'm going to give it a shot before I order a new bridge, but can anyone confirm that this German OFR is a drop-in replacement for the Ping?

I am assuming the saddles need shims to get the radius correct?

(2 of the .2mm shims under each E string, and 1 under the A and B strings will get a 10" bridge up to 16", according to this: http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=1983.0)

Also I am assuming this is an error - the MF page says
The R3 Nut is designed for guitars with neck widths of 1-11/16" (42.90mm) and a 10" radius

But the FR site says the R3 has a 12" radius, and the neck has a 12-16 compound.

    Thanks for the info!!!!!!!!!!

You may have already figured it out, but if you look at the floyd that comes with it (FRT 1000), there is a flat metal piece/shim under some of the saddles that is not there compared to a german OFR as it "normally" ships. All you need to do is remove that flat metal piece from under the middle saddles of the german OFR and you will get to 16"ish. No need to shim the outer strings. At least that's my experience.
