  • Charvel Model 2 - White Headstock

Just purchased another Model 2 to go with my original one I got in 1988. Picked it up for the princely sum of $400 Australian Dollars ($370US roughly), so pretty happy with the deal!

This one has a white headstock, which I have personally never seen before. Was this a common feature?

Just speaking on what I've seen myself, a matching hs isn't exactly rare but it's not common either. It really does take that axe to another level though. Just wouldn't be the same with a black one. Other guys here probably know more than me though.

Thanks for the reply. Once I saw the white headstock I had to have it!! The guy I bought it off has another white headstock one in his collection and said his and this one are the only 2 he has seen. Being in Australia, the range of options was probably pretty limited as to what was imported….

I've never seen one with a matching head, I think it is fairly rare. Probably something for the non US market would be my guess.

I'd heard the matching headstocks were for non-US guitars. My SDK is white with a white headstock and is a non-US model. The matching headstock and pointy guitar logo area couple of the details that drew me towards it.
Any way you could possibly put more shit into your sig?

Starting to piece some info together. According to this website: http://www.charvelusa.com/identify_model_series3.html The colour matched headstocks were on Japan only models. I haven't received the guitar yet, its still in transit, but from what i can tell, its got the registered logo on the neck plate and headstock and has a neck plate gasket, so its most probably a 1988 model. I'll put some better pictures up when it arrives later in the week. It looks like it has some battle scars on it, but it was bought to be gigged, so its perfect as far as I am concerned!

It finally arrived. Looks to be in all original condition. Neck is in good condition, heaps of life left in the frets. Not sure who did the last set up on it, but they inserted a piece of plastic, folded over twice about the size of a postage stamp in the neck pocket to give the neck more angle. Not sure why, given the bridge is so easily adjusted to compensate. Anyway, a quick set up, swopped the ratty looking J90 out with one in good condition, new strings and a tidy up of the locking nut and it plays and sounds great. The front corner of the JT-6 base plate has broken off. Luckily there was a separate baseplate on EBay which i picked up for $10 and also a truss rod cover on its way from the states, so it should be complete again in no time. The other Model 2 in the photo is my first ever decent guitar that I bought brand new in 1988. Originally it was Burgundy Mist. I made the error of changing the colour in the early 2000's to a satin black, but am considering returning it back to its former glory in the near future. Ends up both guitars are only about 600 serial numbers apart.photo-1.jpg

Here's a scan that I guess comes from one of the '89 Japan-only catalogs. Looks like you could get black or matching headstock.
