  • Desolation star

GC is blowing out the desolation star (single hum). Its on sale for $219 which I think is a fair price. Who has one? how has it been? I was thinking of getting a black one, adding gold hardware, blocking the trem to dive only and maybe adding a TV Jones PU. Is it a good cheap or bad cheap guitar?

    Peace~

I have a DST3, for that price it's well worth it. Nice neck and comfortable to play. I liked it so much I had mine repainted. So for that price it's worth trying out.

One of the GCs by me also had one on sale for this price. Haven't been back lately to see if it's still there. Was tempted to grab this but I resisted. Here the link to it.

I've got a black one that I plan to mod whenever I can find the time... Definitely worth $219.

I had one I painted yellow, put a Duncan Distortion in and a DK2 neck on. But I sold it a couple of weeks ago. It was a good guitar for the money but it held bad memories for me.

So, I picked it up. Its not bad at all, especially for the price. I rather like the neck. I don't think its a compound radius neck, which is kind of weird for charvel.

Its my third star. I previously had the Charvel Legacy star and a LTD Gus G 600 series- which had the most horrible neck dive ever .

I was originally thinking of replacing the stock PU with a TV Jones Power'tron, but I've been reconsidering. What will give me INCREDIBLE CLARITY, amazing tightness and a lot of punch without overpowering the amp? Maybe something with a bit of a vintage flavor too?

The Full Shred is a good option, as is the Parallel Axis (original model). Or if you want to go the DiMarzio route, the Tone Zone and Evo II would be decent choices as well...

I can't say that I'm a fan of the Demon or Full shred. I've had a demon a long time ago and it was shrill. The Full shred was even worse.

Here's the thing...I've got about 8 guitars, and have a bridge humbucker in every one. Part of me is thinking that maybe its time to try something else??? I've been going back and fourth between a TV Jones Classic Plus and a DiMarzio Chopper. I've got a chopper in the neck position of my PC1-its wired for series and parallel, can go from fat to thin and sounds great! I'm wondering what it will be like in the bridge of the star??? I'm listening to The Winery Dogs as I think richie kotzen uses one in his tele's. Then there's the TV Jones. There's something about it I just like. Its not like a p90 or a PAF or a SC. Its a weird oddity that sounds great clean! I just wonder how it will be for really high gain through my VHT Pitbull? My favorite band is The Living End, and their guitarist uses a classic plus in his Gretsch for hard rock and punkabilly. I've been wanting to try one for a long time. Is a Charvel with a TV Jones a weird idea?

When I think about hum's, the SD Perpetual burn, DiMarzio Gravity Storm, and Arcane Mr Scary have been on my radar. I don't know if they'll get me the tone I want, but I'm curious about them.

                        Update-

So far, I bought a silver Floyd 1000 series, off a pro mod and a tremol-no so I can block the trem for dive only. Yesterday, the bridge PU arrived, a BKP Miracle Man (so much for the TV Jones idea).

I'm planning on painting the guitar with Plasti-Dip. Has anyone ever done this? Plasti-dip is peelable, so I figure I'll give it a shot. I'm doing half Day Glow yellow/ half plum crazy purple.

I can't speak for the Gretsch pups, but I really love the EVH Frank in my Model 3, and have also loved the SD 59 bridge.

So I tried the Miracle Man. It was my first BKP. I had heard the hype about them and wanted to try one out.
I thought it sounded hi-fi and was kind of cool. But, and this is a biggie- It gave me a headache. This is the second or third time that a piece of gear has given me a headache. I think it has to do with frequency. I hear a few frequencies that most people don't hear. I don't know what it is???

I ordered a Screamin' Demon as a replacement. I'll see how that goes. I had one a few years ago in an alder bodied Dean and thought it sounded shrill. I've heard its hit or miss for this PU. I'll update this with my opinion and the guitar when I get the PU. The star has had quite the makeover

BTW, If anyone wants to buy the MiracleMan, its for sale.
